You mispelled it Rod; it's Circlism. lol

Might add some more when my Ocelot upgrade finishes. :)

As a side note, I just wish Ben would create some new ones to share on this thread. He definitely was the inspiration for my quest these past few years but I don't believe there will ever be a way to 100% create the renders like he amazingly does using automated techniques (but I'll keep on this quest; 100 times strides made by David as you know). Below's his website by the way; worth perusing imo. :)

So, let's start with new stuffs. Actually this one made me discover a bug in the algorithm that I have to correct (the background contains no circles while it should have)

Why sometimes the result is just the image turned in a solid black rectangle ?
It happened me twice (and was RGB so no transparency and no alpha)

The last time when I used the default setting with this image
http://assets.sanctuaryforall.com/image ... 24x768.jpg

and after a 40 minutes wait i got ...a solid black 1024x768 rectangle :gaah

Yup PC; that happens when you have an embedded alpha channel (talk about frustrating when it takes so long to render; lol). Anyway, here you go Rod as promised (left it run while I hit the sack last nite). :)

No matter what type of image it is just be sure to flatten image.
Worked for me every time after that PC. :) (Thanks O!)

Lyle that is cool, but what is it?

Since no preview after changes settings - which is better (according to basic settings):
long rendering time (Old-18 min) - or rapid effect (New-3 min) ?
According to the first set gave me the best effect.
Therefore, (first time) I do not want to upgrade GMIC (old settings before saving-choice).
Perhaps, in time tests, add to what settings ?
As always - for the great plug-ins - are great opportunities ...

Like the rapid effect; what are the settings for that MareroQ (just did a refresh but don't see that from the refresh). Also, to Rod's earlier question, I have no idea what this big Leafed plant is called. Referenced from the Free Photo Index. :)

As a beginner:
- The initial settings (although for a long time to achieve the effect) - they are beautiful,
- After update GMIC - OK-filter run faster - but as for me, the worse the effect.
OK, you can save every setting - just ask - with what parameters?

Rod, how did you get the small dots to go around the brim of the hat and bow? Did you select them separately? Also, it looks transparent, Did you remove any white before you ran the script?

Believe I figured out how to get the dots to better follow a subjects contours (i.e., more sharper looking results). I used G'MIC's Pen and Ink preset prior to running Circlism. I suspect that its the resulting haloing that forces the dots to follow the contour details of the subject. I've not tried to make an intentional highpass filter create haloing (an apostasy with respect to photo editing not to mention noise; lol), but may later. This one took ove an hour to render so, well, you know why I'm not going to do one any time soon. lol

Maybe someone else here will try to do a severe halo process then feed that result into Circlism to see what result they would get. :)

No MareQ i was not saying to save preset, also because in this case presets would be broken by the filter update,

I was saying to resurrect the previous version of the filter , it is not difficult but in this case you should find and copy your
.gmic_def.xxxx file BEFORE click for the filter update

I explain how to find that file and how to extract and modify the filter code that you want preserve in this TUT
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2820
that i wrote thinking to you and lylejk (that often too miss old version of filters)

As result you would have both new and older version of the filter running without conflict

And done that you may also resurrect older presets broken by filter update using the same find & replace trick
But i don't want go too much OT here ...if you want reply on
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2820
