i am AnMal, queen of the celt wannabees, and here is my royal tiara. i thank molly for sharing the gold waffle pattern and hereby declare her high duchess of the kingdom - i can't specify what kingdom, exactly, it's not as if i had one, but i suppose she can always pick a kingdom herself.

(i may grant a knighthood (hmm.. i'm assuming the term is gender neutral) to anyone who has really good gemstones/gemstone settings that would suit this tiara - anything i try looks too clumsy)

What you need is the Gems Brushes I got from PC's collection. They are made by Obsidian Dawn and are available for DL on Deviant Art I'm sure. Here's the zip. Have fun!

Darn it! I can't find my sparkly brushes. Forgot what they are called. Oh well, off to dinner.

Here ya go. There's another set called Brilliance that I used to make the little ones.

:wow good heavens, draconian, that's bling enough for three - and since i always say too much is never enough i love it :)! *raises ritual sword* "i, AnMal, etc, hereby declare you knight of the kingdom, sir draconian metalmagicker!"

esper: thank you, brother :)! paths, yes. then i filled the result with molly's gold waffle pattern and tweaked the colours a bit because i don't like my gold too bright and yellow, then i embossed it.
diamonds made from starshaped paths? don't waste your time in here, go get them ready so we can see them!!!

I totally agree; good job!

By the way, ever since I read this article (http://www.cracked.com/funny-6975-what- ... -about-you), I've been totally meaning to get a signature but I keep getting sidetracked.

Any ideas? I love peacocks...

mariawendt: funny article you found :). i have very little imagination when it comes to signatures, as you can see i just use my screen name in a font i like with some understated effects - i'm pretty sure you can do bethher than that! a peacock sounds like a beautiful idea.

Obsidian Dawn has her own website for downloading all sorts of stuff...Actually AnMal I reckon the gold fill gradient might be nice as well.

he4rty: simplest possible way - by using curve bend on the triskells/triquetras and then just drawing a path that followed their bend.
akky: i didn't try the gold fill gradient, but i usually don't like it for this kind of thing - i'm fussy about my metal and i've always preferred hammered, etched, brushed and imprinted metal to the smooth and highly polished kind. usually the gold fill gradient gives a surface that's too flat for my taste.

edit:
i'm sorry, i most definitely didn't mean to forget you, dra- eh sir draconian :). your undying loyalty is graciously accepted and i promise i won't behave anything like this: queen elizabeth I

akky: you got me curious though - i just automatically went for a textured pattern because in my mind that's always the best - i think i will have to root out the xcf and try the gradient fill just to see what happens - and if it looks awful i can always blame you :hehe .

Those gemstone brushes will be really helpful. I doodled with some and the results were pretty good.

The problem with that particular set of brushes is the 'grayness' and getting them to look bright and sparkly. They are also quite large and don't reduce well but no surprise there.I had to use an angular setting with a white to transparent gradient and lowereed opacity layer to get a glow effect then colorize the brush results with a bluish white.

There is another set of brushes called Brilliance but they all have a white background and requires some tedious background removal around the gemstone. I was fooling around with one of these and got this. I would have added a sparkle here and there but can't seem to find my sparkly brushes. Still doesn't look right.
