we finally had our first real autumn day in town today - there was silvery frost layers on the ground when i left for work and in the shadier places there was still some frost left when i came back. l o v e l y!!! as always, it made me long for my favourite thing in the world: snow. so when i sat down with gimp after dinner i had to make some snowflakes with rotated text (lowercase g, font casua) and the snowflakes were put through a lot of filters and stuff and ended up as this pattern that looked like a pretty gift wrap. here's three of those - they're seamless, so my idea is to fill an a4 with one of the patterns, get some helpful person to print it for me (i don't own a printer, but know lots of helpful people) and then try it out for real as gift wrap :).

nice !

i think its not easy finding the right paper for making giftwrap

what you could also do is use the big snowflake, photocopy it to one of those transparent overheadprojector plastic sheets, cut it out with an exacto knife and spray your stencil

Really nice snowflake, I think I would prefer a slightly smaller snowflake so each square has a very small border, but thats me being picky.

molly: thank you! it's so amazing that they can turn out so pretty when they're just made out of rotated g:s.

esper: i don't think paper is that much of a problem - one of my friends from crafts and design school made her christmas gift wrap one year by help of the school printers and i know where to find the paper she used - not glossy and thin like ordinary gift wrap, but it will take colour nicely and it will be just soft enough to wrap packages in if you're a bit careful. i had quite enough of stencil cutting after one and a half years in a small textile workshop :).

O: thank you :).

he4rty: hmm... when i read that comment i thought: "i wouldn't like that, though!" then i tried it anyway just to see - and first i didn't like it, i think it looks somehow more generous when the snowflakes fill the boxes completely, but then i did a bit more tweaking and now i'm happy with those results too.

here's some more snowflakes from today:

gms9810: oh yes, there's nothing like sweden when she's in a good mood - but days like today, when she's an ugly old hag in a really foul mood i wouldn't recommend a visit :). my favourite places are the island of gotland on the east coast, the old town in stockholm and of course, last but not least, the whole province of dalarna. that's where i grew up and it's truly lovely.

erisian: thank you! i will of course have to invest in a lot of photo paper to actually make it though, so maybe there'd be too little left for any gifts :). i may have been just a bit too optimistic when i planned this.
