Love the first one...it has movement, depth, even has the feel of something evil down there.

thank you 2-ton, its my favorite too
getting the text right was horrible, i tried loads of different stuff: layerfx, perspective tool, text along path, text in the middle, text at the bottom, etc.

i think the middle yellow structure looks a bit like Galactus' head from SilverSurfer ;)

i made some more

here is the original:
Image

its a track with a kung fu theme, thats why its called the crane (style)
my result may look simple but it was quite difficult to make
the googled picture had the wrong dimensions so i had to fill the gaps somehow
for that i made a pattern of the grass, then used other tricks to mask and blur the, way to symmetrical texture, and finally blended the corners with the smudge tool

finding the right font for the 'S' didnt succeed either, so i chose a different one and applied a G'Mic filter

im quite happy with this one
i used the xcf file from my recreated buzzsaw logo and pasted the original cover artwork on top of it
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5598
the orange-brown text looks like gold and the outer ring a bit like tortoiseshell

yes, mostly the inner round label of an actual vinyl record
sometimes the sleeve

its really a nice structure to work with, because you have a very defined format what has to happen in your artwork and what the dimensions are

i must say, often i do not know what to make, because the possibilites are endless
but in this format everything makes sense, even the text effects have a purpose

and here is something i made by mirroring the original picture i found on some futuristic themed blog
added the middle structure
then run a few G'Mic filters on top of it
it looks like Saruman's techno citadel ;)

Couldn't resist having a go at making a record, followed this PS Tutorial, the only extra thing I did was just above the intial black circle created a greyscale noise layer that I motion blurred on the radial settings and then set layer mode to Grain Extract.
Also if you do decided to follow the tut just ignore the step where it tells you to rasterize your layer, I tried it but it didn't look right with dreadlocks and a red, yellow, green and black knitted hat . Apparently after some google searching this function just converts a vector to a raster graphic which is gimps native format anyways.

Here is the result and Esper I'm sorry I had to punch a hole in your design.

luckily Source Direct really made another tune called Snake Style :rofl

apart from that, your result looks really good - almost like the real thing :bigthup

esper: lot's going on in this thread, hard to keep up with it! i like the first and last covers in the first post - especially the first one. the perspective in that picture almost gives me vertigo :). i like what you did with the crane label too and the gold and tortoiseshell look of the buzzsaw one. mirrored images always fascinate me, i like the second one very much. reminds me of one of photo comix pictures, with a tunnel in it.
he4rty: hey, that's a very good looking record!

That is the cool thing about art. You can make things realistic or fantasy like. I agree with you the result looks good and well art made by breaking (or maybe bending?) the rules works just fine in this case. A lot of neat creativity shown by you in this thread. Nice work.
