This whole virus thing aside; cool effect. I wonder if there's a plugin for GIMP that does something similar.

One thing I would like to mention.
I would never knowingly post any software on any forum or website that I found harmful.
This software works fine on my machine and I have had 0 issues with my security.

With that said, I will go as far as to recommend downloading it and trying it out, because it is FREE and some pretty great results can be achieved in your graphics with it.

I understand your concern with viruses, and if you do not want to download the software don't, simple as that.
I test the software on my machine and if it works, and there are no problems, I throw in a link to it.

Download it or don't, totally up to you.by all means test it for viruses yourself before installing it.

Personally I have had more issues with commercial software than with this so I think I have said enough on the issue. =)

There are two commercial effects both 8bf plug-ins.
One is Flaming Pears Flood, and the other is a filter through Filter Forge.
Neither are free though

Oh, no. I never thought you were listing infected programs on purpose.

I do now though.

:) Joking.

The thing is, most viruses made now, are made to be invisible. The longer you don't notice it, the longer it can siphon off your data and the more money the virus maker makes from companies buying that data.

But you just reminded me of the site itself, McAfee has this database that it runs to keep track of bad websites. I decided to look tucows up.
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/tucows.com
Almost half of the responses say it distributes viruses. Add in phishing, bad shopping experiences, and negative reviews, and it's a little over half.

So take care if you regularly download things from there. Maybe they've gotten rid of all the infected software, maybe not. Be safe people.

EDIT: I'm not telling everyone to never download it, just trying to let them know it was reported to have a virus in it. May be a false positive, I don't know. And I -did- test it for myself. That's what the last ten posts were about.

I downloaded the Sqirlz and I think it is great. I have had no probs with it except I haven't had time to figure it out yet. From what I see in the demo's, it is great...

Interesting. Tucows has always been listed as 100% virus free. Then again I haven't used it in a couple of years.

"Also, no anti-virus finds everything"
Apparently correct
BUT not correct for ALL KNOW viruses trojan etc

All the know virus have names, and the data to identify them are public, so if updated any decent antivirus should be able to identify all know virus (in practice there are still errors, false negative and false positive but no so commune...)

The the real difference between antiVirus is for detect of unknow virus ... new virus still not yet identificated
this is usually called "euristic detection"

Anyway is a guess, a probability ,
if a file has some similarity with some know virus then may be reported as possible risk, that often work to detect new virus
But since is a guess give a much higher percentual of false positive (higher then in the search of know virus )

Allow me a example

If somebody tell to the police that in a shop there are 2 guy with gigantic knives and blood drops on the knives and the cloth ...police may well suspect that are criminals doing a robbery.

And since the 2 guy have weapons and the shop is full of possible hostages the best solution may seems use snipers or make a blitz to shoot them dead before they could harm

Now in base of this "euristic definition" (similarities with know criminals : shop, Big Knives dropping blood, other drop of blood on cloths...) all the Butchers of the city will risk to be killed by the Police, in their own shop

...that would be a case of false positive in euristic detetion

This analolgy is good! You also forgot to mention all the costume shops that sell plastic knives with blood on them for Halloween.

Yeah, good analogy. I'll have to use that sometime. :)
But that is part of the reason for using so many programs to scan. If none of them find anything (even with all the false positives and multiple ways of scanning), then I can be reasonable certain that the file is clean. It also depends on where I got the file. If I get it from SourceForge, then I can trust it slightly more than if I get if from, say, The Pirate Bay.
