inspired by a comment by esper in this thread: what the medusas did next. i changed some multi-replicate settings and put the results together, it became a multie-layered pattern of turbulent paisley clouds :).

Really nice, I like the lineart type style to the design.

That is beautiful ! :yes

I rotated and mirrored to enlarge and make seamless , now should tile well both horizontally and vertically (I had to scale at 1000x1000 even as jpg was too big file for GC ..and for the occasion i bumped a bit the contrast)

Image

and i could not resist to modify the colours (i used a my preset for Samj Colours Meteallique for the BG, on top 3 duplicated layers of the seamless version but turned in negative : from bottom up, Color, Multiply And Overlay mode , all at 100% opacity )

Image

oh this was more simple but maybe come better : i just swapped the colors channel and applied a bit of blur to smooth

Image

ohh i almost forgot the last, a sort of coloured line art
(it is not line art just a negative with contrast boosted ;)

:hi5 Thank !

AnMal

did you mind if i made a Pattern/M3D maps pack with the seamless version (also from the other topic) ?

If you have a DA account i may credit you, (If you don't have i may give this link or another you prefer )

PS i tried the Samj Sketch XY filter for the first time !

Now we may even pretend to have done everything by hand, see, here the proof the first draft, then was less then 6 hours to clean the lines and colour everything ;) :hehe

Image

It is literally true, less then 6 hours handwork, i may swear was less

and finally...

Image

Argghh i got hooked..i can't stop !! :gaah ..help please

molly: thank you! i'm sending this pattern to my spoonflower account, with any luck at all it will print well and i can order some fabric and sew stuff from it :).
erisian: thank you! i thought of fractals too when i saw the finished pattern.
akros: thank you very much!
he4rty: thank you! the pronounced contours were important, since the chinese cloud patterns i was inspired by has those.
photo comix: wow, those are all great looking! i agree with akros it's hard to pick a favourite, but maybe number two (from preset in couleurs metalliques) and four (negative w enhanced contrast). i don't mind you using my pattern for anything and while it's nice to be credited i'm not too fussy about it. i don't have deviantart, but if it's not against any forum rules you could link back here.

like i said before i don't mind one bit, but i'm curious to know what you're talking about :). what's a "Pattern/M3D maps pack"?

lastly i just have to point something out, though: the pattern was already seamless. it tiles perfectly without being symmetrical. whether the mirror-symmetry pattern or the original is more beautiful is just a matter of taste and i couldn't even decide which one i like best, but the seamlessness of the original is a matter of fact, not of tastes, and since i'm fussy about seamlessness when i make patterns i want it to be perfectly clear that my original pattern was, in fact, seamless.

Well i quickly tried to tile , using gmic "normal array" and was not tiling well, but i can't exclude with other tool will do...
i use always gmic "normal array" for quick tiling test i had to admit mine was really a quick test, i didn't even rendered but only looked into the preview and there i saw visible seams ...
So i switched to gmic "mirrored array" and you saw the follow up...

M3D aka Mandelbulb3D my favorite fractal program may use "maps" (images of any kind and size)
for colour the objects and colour one or more of the lights ( up to 6 diffrent light source are usable )

As i said M3D maps doesn't need to be seamless BUT now M3D include also 2 new "wrap" option to apply the map , and for use "wrap" at best is better have seamless images as maps

And if seamless they could be used not only within M3D but more generically as patterns for any graphic program :
in the worst case , for programs not supporting jpg /png as pattern (gimp does support both no need to convert in gimp pat ) should be only needed to open the pattern(s) as image(s) and save in the requested format inside the program pattern folder

BTW one of my previous "M3D maps/Pattern " packs

http://photocomix2.deviantart.com/art/S ... -316146201

and 1 of the 67 pattern inside

photo comix: this is so strange! i tried it in g'mic regular array too, and no seams at all - and really, there shouldn't be any, since i didn't make the pattern in a way that might give seams. do you think it matters what version of the g'mic filter i'm using? but that should be the latest one too, i just updated. would you mind making a screenshot of the regular arrayed tile so i can compare?

thanks for the explanation, i now understand the map function in m3d :) - i hadn't got that one figured out yet.

You are right , it was a quirk in gmic preview , if you see at full size you may notice quite visible seams at the centre

Image

BUT was a defect in the preview , the render is perfect
i should have rendered , i should know that gmic preview sometimes is not correct

Image

BTW this instead is Gmic/Faded Array, also this works fine ...
EDIT ...no..."faded array" is ALMOST fine but some line breaks are visible on the left along the middle line

photo comix: thank you for that! i now know i'm not going crazy :). i didn't preview at full size, just the smallest size preview, but i always render since it's important to see how a pattern looks spread out over a larger space. interesting that faded array worked so well, it usually just messes my patterns up.
gms9810: thank you, brother! "a paisley sort of girl" must be about the most flattering thing you could call me :).
