(click for DA version)

Second image for the evening! A small landscape study done for a contest on DA, having the theme "Stone".

MyPaint + GIMP, about an hour.

Nice i love the atmosphere and the idea of towel with the little glasses and the bottle but without a visible presence

what is that down near the bottom left of the rock? I have a small monitor so it's looking like a little critter of some kind or a flower.

Thanks for the comments! This ended up winning the stone contest, yay. :) I ditched the picnickers partly because I liked the empty scene like and partly because I didn't have time to add more stuff. ;)

@2-ton
It's a wine bottle. I think you see the red bow on its neck. :)

aha, yes, I just went to the other computer with the bigger monitor, lol. I agree that not having the picnickers in the picture makes it much more interesting.

It's less of a contest and more of a way to get people inspired to create stuff repeatedly. Each week one of the entries gets picked to choose and judge next week's theme. It's a good way to keep your artistic vein in gear (it's very relaxed).

So if you are on DA and want to take the chance to challenge yourself, drop an entry to Deviant Deadlines. Deadline is next friday. The theme I picked (since I "won" this week) is "Still Life".

I've always liked the way you do foliage. The stone texture came out good, too. Great work :D

One comment on the cloth, though... it seems to me like it's painted on the rock... maybe conforming to the rock's surface a bit too perfectly.

@merrak

Thanks for the feedback!

Fair point about the conformity of the cloth, it could probably do with some more folds emanating from its highest point.
