One of my favorite things to do is walk through the woods and look for trees that I can manipulate into faces. I used to have a dozen or so but over the years the folder got lost. We took a walk yesterday and I took a few pics that hold possibilities, this is one. Yeah, I know it's dumb, but it's fun.

That isn't dumb. I do the same thing with some of the wood grain and metal patterns I have.
I just sit back and look at them until something shows that I can start with. Anyway, I think it is very good and that is the kind of thing I like playing with.

gms9810: fun!! i think this tree person looks a little melancholy, though.
i like finding faces in stuff too - i have a whole gallery of characters that i've found on trams and buses here in town, i've never taken photos of them but i've sketched them often enough.

I don't give em moods, I just bring out what's there. If you were a tree wouldn't you be gloomy if you were just standing there and some goofball started taking your picture without even asking?

gms9810: if i was a tree and some goofball took pictures of me without even asking i'd protest the best way a tree can: i'd fall on him, with a heavy bang! that would teach him. aren't you glad i'm not a tree?

Since I didn't have any pictures of interesting tree trunks, I did a search in Bing and found these tree roots here.

This was a lot of fun. I flipped the results vertically and got this funny monster. I used a brown layer set to Grain Merge to color it.

O: that little guy would fit very well in a fantasy illustration, looks good with the colouring.

i was looking for some of my tree pictures to join in the fun when i realized i actually had a tree person readymade - me and my friend found this fellow on our walk in the woods near her house this summer:

Roots! I hadn't thought of those, you opened a whole new dimension to this, O.
