Just finished the final render of an outer Space scene in Blender based on Andrew Price's tutorial.
Here's the snapshot (10th frame) of the future flyover animation.

The lights on the shadowed side of the Earth are actually the city lights over Capetown and Johannesburg in South Africa.
Barely visible here but will be much brighter in flyover animation

That looks very good, I'm still a struggling rookie with Blender.

at Odin. Keep trying. It's worth time spent. I've been learning it for a year now and still am a rookie :)
AnMal, check out his The Nature Academy introduction video.
There is some mind-blowing stuff.
Yes, NASA daytime, nighttime and clouds maps were used. The image resolution are about 21800 x 10500 pixels, Andrew shrank it in half which is enough for his animation (the spinning Earth) and made a bump map. You can't see it in this image but the surface of the Earth actually has elevations and valleys after bump mapping. Three separate spheres were used for surface, clouds and atmosphere. My animation is going to be totally different (close by flyover animation) and this kind of resolution is barely enough.

k1tesseraena: amazing! i don't know what's more impressive - that he can actually make that stuff, that he had the patience to go through all that experimenting to learn it, or that he takes the time to teach it to others.
