here is a 3 part video showing how i do a sunset painting in gimp 2.6. there is some of the painting that could have been way better but i was just trying to show the basic way of how to do one. if i was gonna do it and not make a video i would have taken more time to focus on more detail. but this is a simple painting anyone can do. painter or not. hope you enjoy. No sound and no music added. if you have any questions please ask.

OH boy!!!...that is a wonderful video series...EXCELLENT and a perfect way for me to learn.
PLease, I hope it will remain posted for some time to come, as I will be watching it in portions over and over again as I try to make something similar. Thanks so very much for doing this. I hope it has inspired you to do more...you should...it is VERY helpful!!!

Thanks for all the time it must have taken to do this.

It will remain on my youtube channel...there is no worry of it coming down...i am thinking of doing a series of them. there may be more to come soon. If i can find the time i will do more. painting is simple. once you know the steps. if anyone has ever thought they could not paint. they need to take another look at it. this painting is so simple.

My very first painting ever.
I have been working for 2 hours at least and I am quite pleased. I can not get the wave squiggles, but will try that again another day.
I did not use my brush that I made which would be good for some shrub or tree greenery. I will try that next time too.

I got some of the basics figured out, though, and that is huge for me.

Thanks again for the tutorial...I will be doing it more than once.

not bad. :coolthup practice makes perfect. it took me awhile to learn how to paint with gimp and to get the effect i got with my painting. i think you did a good job for it being your first painting.

I wanted to mention, that it is a challenge to work with a laptop and mouse, and now I know what the others who do such great work that way have to struggle with...it is awkward.

What is a good very inexpensive drawing tablet that could plug into my laptop, maybe?...I don't know how they work...well, I can research I guess, online.

I have to look up how to get the guide to show...I could drag the horizontal down, but then it just disappeared. Also wondered how you snapped that eraser on the bottom of the mountains?
I can look it all up if no one has a short answer. Just thinking outloud, here.

when i erased the bottom part of the mountain i held down the shift and control key at the same time and dragged the mouse to where i wanted to erase to and just left clicked the mouse. you can also draw straight lines with the same method with a drawing tool. i draw with my mouse. i have a tablet my uncle gave to me and to me it was harder than with my mouse.

drawing with a mouse can be hard at first. and it is awkward. the slower you go when you draw the easier it is to do. it takes time and practice. but to me it is very rewarding to do art so i put the time into it. I think you are new to gimp right? if so, give it some time and i think you will be amazed at what you can do
with it. you are being a little hard on yourself. you will only get better with time and practice. well if you have any questions please feel free to ask. i don't mind the questions. i know my video didn't answer them all. i truly wanted to talk you through it. but at least you have a starting point. good luck with your future painting and don't be afraid to ask questions. that's what we are here for. i check in every night to see what is going on, but during the week i may miss a day. anyways i hope you won't give up.
