Okay I'm FINALLY trying it out!

First image has some gimp in it, the second is just My paint.
Not really anything special just tests but still, any advice on using it would be nice!
Remember I use a mouse!

I like the apple! I wonder if apples are the "hello world!" of art programs.

Some good starts there Moko. How do you like MyPaint?

PS: It's MyPaint, not My Paint. ;)

Lovely work Moko. You've got great talent with a mouse - I dread to think what you will be like with a tablet.

I am trying it out too and it is a disaster. I am having problems knowing which brushes to use. I was trying to do a simple fried egg, sunny side up.
I might have to hook up my tablet after un-hooking it about 2 yrs ago.
Is there a selection sphere to make something round or to clean up my edges?

@molly

MyPaint is optimized for a tablet so you should really use that if you have one - many of the brushes make special use of tablet functionality (such as combining different functionality depending on pressure).

There are no selection tools of any kind in MyPaint - it's a pure painting program. It's infact intended to be used together with GIMP, letting the latter handle all selection/cropping and adjustments. You can always delete around your edges to sharpen them.

As for which brush to use, it's a matter of taste I guess. MyPaint has some excellent procedural brushes for all sorts of uses.

Thank you Griatch...I will think about re-installing my tablet. I am looking for a different desk first so I have more room for those things. This is a little first try thang.

You people are making me miss my tablet. T.T

@Erisian:
Ahaha XD
You Dreaddd it! Lol
Thank you. =P

@Griatch:
Oh, forgive me!...MyPaint* :P ;)

I like it, I'm sure if I had my tablet I'd LOVE it already, but at this point I'm pleased with it.
I'm going to keep playing with it, I'll have a tablet eventually so yeah..
Thus far I like it.

@Merrak:
Lol, that's probably true.

mokonafan: that little rag doll looks lovely! i can't believe how you can do something like this using a mouse - i'm completely useless with one, i'm glad i've got a working touch pad, that's at least a little bit easier.
molly: beautiful work! i really like the soft water coloury look of those pictures. if this is you and mypaint when you are just trying it out and not happy with the results i'd really like to see what you've done when you've worked in mypaint for some time and done things you're happy with!

Thank you AnMal. The worse part is talking myself into hooking that tablet back up. I didn't like it but maybe when I get a larger desk, it may be better.

AH I'm so laggy I didn't see Molly's images. D:
Sorry Molly! :S
I really love your flower! :D

@AnMal:
Aha thank you! xD
Spirit also uses a mouse I think.. I know she used to.
I just finished another "test" with MyPaint I'll post a new thread for it since it's actually meant to be an artwork not just playing around. xD

molly: those are lovely!!! :paint and i think often "unrealistic" hair looks a lot better and more natural than "realistic" hair - i certainly think it does in your second picture.

Thanks AnMaL...I think anyone that can do hair is very talented. I think it is one of the hardest things for me.

Fun studies Moko! Glad to see you trying out MyPaint some more!

And good to see molly getting into her painting groove too. A very nice facial study there! Hair is indeed a tricky business. The difficulty lies in knowing just where to put the level of abstraction - too much and it's just a blob, too little and it becomes a mop. A delicate balance indeed. I would suggest that you have a very good start there, you might want to increase detail just a tad as well as sharpen the edges to further structure the haircut.
