You should do more of this kind of art, Molly. You have a knack for it. :paint :pengy

This is another one of my silhouette paintings. Everything from scratch except the Palm trees.

Absolutely brilliant Molly, and given your obvious capabilities with the product I would appreciate some advice.

I'm trying to extend my knowledge and apply the learning; looking at a number of video tuts yesterday for portraits/digital painting etc, revealed that they were produced using various different products.

Would you recommend Mypaint for this old guy with no art training and no experience other than 6 months of GIMP?

Thank you for the nice feedback OMG.
I would say yes to your question on Mypaint. It is free and it also has some very good brushes and the best thing of all is you can switch back and forth between the XCF and ORA extensions. You can do all your painting in MyPaint and use the filters and clean up tools in Gimp.... the best of both worlds.

Hey that was a quick response Molly, thank you very much. :tyspin

I've already downloaded MyPaint and started reading the basic tutorial and the first thing I come across is the recommendation to use a 'tablet' and not a mouse!!

Well with my arthritis that may be a good thing anyway, so one more recommendation 'pretty please' Molly - Ive canvassed a feww on the web but which particular tablet/pen combination do you suggest for the absolute, aging (but ambitious!!) beginner?

You definitely need a tablet for digiital painting and you will notice a great improvement over trying to control the mouse, especially for fine work.
Mine is a Bamboo Fun CTE - 650 and came with the pen (stylus) and a mouse that you use on the tablet.
In my experience, I don't find the mouse necessary when you already have a regular mouse.
If I had it to do again, I would just get the tablet and pen.
