i'm sure i wasn't the only one who saw and liked this: reflex - gsl

i had to try and make my own thing with this and of course it involved some pink paisleys :).

now that i look at it i can wish i had drawn the gradients in the same angle the pattern units are tilted, but there's no way i'm going to go through all that masking again just to correct this one - it's a lesson for the future, though.

Looks great in my opinion the way it is.

I like it too. I'm wondering what he meant here:
Quote:
Basically just two layers with fg-bg gradients (orange to purple and green to purple) split by a layermask.
Splitting what with a layermask?

Good question. My only answer is layer mask on opposite sides of each gradient filled layer maybe?

rod: thank you :)!
O: of course he can answer that best himself, but my interpretation was this: first use one gradient on a layer, then make a layer mask on that layer that takes away half of the layer, then use the other gradient on a layer below that one. i thought it was fun to try and do this the way i think esper did, but if i hadn't read his notes i'd probably have just made a gradient with the three colours i wanted and a sharp line of division in it.

AnMal, lovely !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clap

i just love everything about your piece, especially the decorating part, with the balls orbiting around the circle
its like looking through a micropscope into a different dimension

and to answer Oregonian's question: Anmal is right - here is a screenshot:
Image

making a gradient from three colours is soooooo Photoshop
jokes aside, i think its easier and gives more control to do it my way with the layermask

Thanks all. I think I have a better idea about the splitting of the letters with a mask. Will try it my way and see what I come up with.

esper: thank you :)! i could say i was just playing around with one of my brushes i the background but it does sound a lot better with the micscope-looking-into-different-dimensions thing. of course that was what i was after all along, glad you explained it to the general public :hehe. i knew the answer to the gradient things would go something like "more control"!
O: that sounds interesting, looking forward to your take on this!
mokonafan: hehe, thank you :)! i'm glad to hear this matches your outfit - that means you have an excellent taste in clothes...
