Erisian, The second one would make a wild looking frame!

erisian: wouldn't it be more fun if the addiction spread instead? i hope it does :). some of these remind me a bit of some patterns i made with silicon mirror once upon a time but lost when my portable hard drive crashed. i thought of frames too, just like odin - the first two would have been perfect framing some art nouveau text on an early twentieth century poster. i think four, five and six are my favourites.

Thanks everybody. I was thinking of using some of these as frames and writing paper decoration.

I immediately thought of a frame at the second one! They are all beautifully done. :)

Wow I like the pink ones too. I have learnt a small bit about fractals but would like to learn more. Dont stop Erisian until you tell others how this can be done please.

erisian: i love this new batch very much! the colours are just my style and i like the intricacy of the fractal patterns. and as usual i see lots and lots of things in them, the last one for example, is a picture of a character in a peking opera :).

Thank you both.

sallyanne - The best fractals for this are made with Sterling2 (It's free) The rest is playing with G'MIC's relief light, mirrored array and symmetrizoscope filters. When using the fractal software you need to do two or three renders the same size with different render modes or filters then put them together in Gimp using overlay layer mode.

I only learnt through trial and error at first and discovered a lot in the process. If Fractal Maker has mandelbrots, try zooming in between the deep V shape and increasing iterations to about 600. Find a shape that you like then if it has filters, play with them. You'll be surprised how easy it is.

You can also find other mac fractal software here. http://fractalarts.com/ASF/download.html

Lovely Eris. I also like the one that looks like a frame. The pink ones are very pretty too. KUDO's
