A reef with Dionysus (thank Wallace ...)

I was browsing the collection of the Rijsk Museum and a image somehow attract my attention.

And so again i went to look in the drawer of my early works, and yes, it was there !

My old portrait of Dionysus , he was leaving on a golden god chariot and was facing out one of the porthole, also to not disturb with the smoke from his joint
That joint remind him of Shiva, one of his Indian Friends and of the excellent barters they did , the first was on the river of the Gange ,
Shiva liked much that delicious fermented grapefruit juice, as Dionysus appreciated the taste of the Ganja

So Dionysus was just smoking his reef ,framed by the porthole of the Golden chariot , and i was just passing by and was such good shot , and then i edited the shot to give a painted look , that at the times was very appreciated, even more when applied on golden lamina , what i show obviously is just a reproduction, original was exposed with other early works in a gallery of my favorite Library but was a arson and everything went destroyed ...what a pity that of Alexandria was such a good Library ! :gaah

Now i am flattered that was used as reference by Jacob Matham (https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/RP-P-1900-A-21972 )
for his interesting derivative work , and obviously credits went easily lost after so long times, i don't mind about.

But yet i am perplex on his edit :
the glass looks clearly badly paste , and is even out of style,surely Dionysus appreciate wine but would never drink wine in such glass in that contest ,
He would maybe play as Baccus (his Roman name ) and drink from barrels

Replace the Joint with that glass doesn't seem a good idea and is so poorly done, the hand is still in the smoker position to hold a reef , not in the position to hold a glass (except if you hold the glass to pose as a very snobbish French sommelier, but that was far from his style )

Anyway no bad as derivative work ...

Technically

I could not resist a short narrative,
this derive from "Bacchus met glas" of Jacob Matham (1600) that is exposed in the Amsterdam Rijskmuseum , and the reproduction is downloadable from the Museum site

To edit i used

1) A LOT OF HELP FROM WALLACE to remove that bloody glass
(see viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8369 )
2) GMIC > Repair> Smooth (Anisotropic ) for turn the original incision pattern in a painted effect
3) Gimp> Light and Shadows> Lighting Effects for the golden and carved effect
4 ) a few brushstrokes to simulate a joint
5) a bit of layerwork to merge 2 with 3
