I've created fractals in gimp. Not my best work, but I'll keep improving.

They are flame fractals found in the render menu. Render>Nature>Flame I believe.

Yes, Erisian is correct, I used the Render-Nature-Flame filers in the filters menu & then created the fractals from there. There's also some pre-made fractals in gimp as well. I just stumbled on Fractal Explorer which is also under render in filters... the 6th one down. :)

I'll probably end up making more. Oh feel free to use them in your works. I'll post more here when I can. :)

I like the second one!

The fractal explorer is fun. You should try Apophysis if you like playing with it.

I like the second one too. I thought these were from Apophysis. I used apo a lot on my old comp to make nebula for space art. This machine here will take all day though. I have yet to find a better way. Still in search of.

Is Apophysis apart of gimp or is it another program? I like your kitten icon merrak! :)

Apophysis is another program - it is free and open source and the fractal parameters are interchangeable with Gimps.

Is there a thread on here for Apophysis? i'm skeptical to download it. I don't want it to give me a virus. I scanned it, but I'm still skeptical to run the program.

You are more or less guaranteed safe with anything open source but I can guarantee the safety of Apophysis as I have had it installed for a long time. If you downloaded it from the official site you have no worries at all.

The official site took me to the sourceforge site and the file came up as a .exe file. Is that the only file there is?

That's the one. Sourceforge is a good site for safe free software.

I never had issues with anything open source on Sourceforge. I also run Linux + WINE, and maybe that provides some extra security. There's also Fract-o-Rama.

I have to swap the cats so one doesn't get jealous
