I like the last one least, it seems a bit too thick around the edge and a bit blurry.
All of them are very nice though, good work! :D

Finally got through this, I added my own version of where to do layer fx...I beveled/embossed the gradient layer to give it a pushed in look. I hope, lol.

Oh alright! xD

Well, I tried to follow it but I didn't know what some of the stuff you were saying was like "Layer max" and when I tried it I didn't see it doing what you said it should so I did things I know how to do that made it do what you were saying. XD

So this is what I came up with... :P

Image

I looked and tried to fix colors a bit with curve:
Image

Like I said I didn't follow EXACTLY but I tried. xd

The last one in your repost of the texts looks better to me. :D

well look what we have here !

you are pretty good at doing texteffects, i mean the result is lovely ! :heart
you should do that a lot more often !

thing with my blog and tutorials is, i expect people to read and try everything i post
so im not explaining everything again and again all the time

i dont know what you mean with "Layer max", because i think i didnt write that
if its a typo, could you tell me where exactly it is, please ?

also, what part of the tutorial do you think needs better explanation ?

oh and thank you for your input, it helped making the golden text better ! :bigthup

Good idea to add inner shadow inside the stoke (or the inlay). It gives nice depth to the text.

:tyspin

Well, I think the tutorial is well written, I'm just not sure what some of the stuff is personally since I do things weirdly. xD

this part here

"05. Alpha select the text, shrink by 4 and on the 'Stroke' layer, apply a 'Layermask From Selection', but make sure 'Invert Mask' is ticked. We want everything inside the selection to be transparent !"

You wrote it fine but doing that did nothing, which means I'm the n00b, nothing to do with you. xD

I noticed I didn't see the whole tutorial I thought I did! I could have taken the text deeper, now I just feel more blonde and silly than I already did.

Glad I could help! xd

Esper, where you have the bevel and emboss on the 'stroke' layer, I did bevel and emboss on the gradient layer and did the bevel direction down and softened it.My test was rather fat so I wanted to give it some interest by making it look somewhat pressed inward. I did not bevel the stroke layer at all.

So this is what I came up with... :P

:puzzled
In step:
"07. Now for the killer-feature !
We make an inner shadow to make it look 3D.
Create a new transparent layer on top of the Gradient layer, but under the Stroke layer. Name it 'Inner Shadow'.
Alpha select your base text, shrink it by 4px (same as Stroke), and then invert the selection.
07.a. Gaussian Blur the layer. I used a value of 10px.
"

But that would be to blurred this layer? :puzzled

Could not the font "Algers". I downloaded twice but gave error while trying to unzip.
I used another font, but I could not use the Skrink by 4, since my text was much lower than the 300px the tutorial.
This influenced the final effect, but I followed the tutorial to the end.
Image
Just highlighting the background, the visual takes another aspect.

Esper thx for the tuto! :tyspin

oh, sorry about that Akros

i added the missing information

of course you need to fill the inverted selection with a (dark) colour, then deselect and then blur

;)
Was in doubt. I thought I had lost in some step. But it seemed logical to fill with black color. :hehe
I ended up doing it right! :yes
Super, hyper, mega, ultra, fast! Already downloaded (the font)! :bigthup
Thank you!

no thank you Akros, for doing my tutorial !
you are always following my steps to the word, so i have to be extra careful not to make a single mistake, lol

of course you could do an inner shadow that is not blurred if it fits the style
but most of the time, you probably want everything to blend nicely

maybe try a coloured version next ?
you did great on the first try !!

i see, interesting variation !
makes it look a bit puffy :bigthup

the only thing i dislike about your result is the fact that the inner shadow is bleeding through the edges of the textboundaries
you could just alpha select the text, shrink by 1 or 2, invert and then cut (or apply a layermask) the inner shadow to fix that easily

I will remember that the next time I do an inner shadow.
