Erisian: My apologies, I had the wrong ship.

Top layer is original image in grain merge mode.
3rd layer is gray in color blend mode.
2nd layer is an embossed layer of the original at 80% opacity normal mode
Base layer is the original image in normal mode.

To get the patches of chipped concrete, select areas of the embossed layer and copy/paste as the next layer up, then multiply or grain merge (depending on your image).

Clear as mud? ;)

Gradient to selection over the top of a BRL (with minimal height)
