I had a really difficult time making this Celtic knot pin image, (maybe it's just me, I'm not sure) but the challenge is to recreate this 'Celtic Knot Pin" by whatever means you can find, using Gimp only to recreate this same design.
Color and texture is the only thing that can be different, as well as the dimensions of your image.
For those who except this challenge, Good Luck.

FYI... The only script used to create this image was the Python script, "bevel&emboss".

Continuing the Challenge...

That is beautiful. I have no idea how to do anything resembling this, and I would probably have to just trace yours to get anywhere near.

Very cool Wallace. Too lazy to try myself though. Knotter is a cool program to create celtic knots too; just not really in the mood to render right now. :)

Thanks!
You can use any means, as long as you use your Gimp to do it from scratch.

Understandable, either you except this challenge or not.
There's no pressure form me for anyone to participate in this challenge.

Gonna have to try this when I get a few minutes, busy training new people at work. Still need to work on the interlocking stuff. :coolthup

Very cool! You definitely aced this challenge. :jumpclap
I'm interested to know what you found to be the most challenging aspect of creating this design?

Thanx Wallace,

Mine was quick just under 15 minutes. Just wanted to see if I could do it easily and so I did not use path tool, but the ellipse selection tool and the rectangle selection tool. Cut out the shapes into separate layers and applied bump map.

My challenging aspect was applying shadows relative to the light source.

Stay well.

Here are a couple of variations of my attempt at the challenge. It wasn't that difficult but I guess the most tricky part was splitting up the layers for the weave.

Extruded in pink marble, with some added perspective.

Here is mine-

Not too hard as I did it on a grid with snapping and selection tools. I did change the shadows to match the bevel lighting, however (from the NW) :P

I also made the shadow of the overlapping bits darker and less blurred than the background shadow.

I didn't think to use "bump mapping". :coolthup

I agree with Molly. Great job you guys, I hope it was an enjoyable challenge for those who took part in it so far.

Great looking pin RobA. How did you get the bevel so cleanly rendered?

I gave it a go. I made a height map and bump mapped a "wood of some sort" tiled layer. Then drop shadowed it.

Here's another variation. Kind of a chromium effect.

I like that effect. Nice Tux.

I'm still wondering how RobA got the bevel so cleanly rendered?

I just used my chisel script with an inner setting of 5 px :)

I don't think I have that script, will it work with 2.6? Never mind, I don't have the right Python in my 2.6 to run the script.
