Right
Mahvin you may get a new preset by a preset but just once for each

first back up the .gmic_faves file
then load , and finetune the preset till happy
APPLY
and then duble click on the preset it will open a field on top where RENAME the preset

This will overwrite the older even if has a different name
but for this you did the back up!
now is just copy and paste to merge

OPSS i forgot to add this

But i like is quite delicate

The idea was simulate High Key BW, very sofltly
(once some photographer smear vaseline on the lens or fog the lens for smoother images )

May be handy for soft high key portaits

Thank Rod
could you please lock the older topic on PhotoComix Graphic Boost II ?

"Graphic Novel Fx" is the new " PhotoComix Graphic Boost II" include all previous effects something new and several fixes .

If somebody really wish he could still use the old version (and the OLD preset):
it is not hard i may even explain the details but i can see much reasons to do it

About " PhotoComix Graphic Boost" should be now be included in Gmic but with a shortened name "Graphic Boost".
Also for that i plan a new version very soon
(and again when i will post a update of Graphic Boost i will give a code compatible with the older version

I actually have been using the older filter with presets (not all work, though) for testing purposes. So, there may be other uses other than people unwittingly using an older non-supported version. I wanted to clarify this before you shut the door on the thread.

Mahvin you think that adding a how to would help ?

I am not deleting old versions but they would be soon or later automatically overwritten by Filter Refresh

To avoid that the filter to preserve should be copied , slightly modified

I'm thinking a "How To" on all aspects of user-made G'MIC filters starting from where zonderr leaves off, because just yesterday I was struggling with faves presets, and I consider myself an intermediate user.

The door on how to make your own has been opened, thanks to zonderr, now someone should eclipse it with all the follow-ups that come after (e.g. adding the filters to .gmic file, adding presets to .gmic_fave). Currently, there isn't a static page that offers this, unless I have overlooked it being mentioned somewhere.

This would work with the filter i did, because at every update i slightly change the filter command name to avoid conflict with other versions

But for the other filters some renaming should be needed:
2 filters can't have same name, for name is not relevant the name used in the filter list but count the name of the filter as in first line of the code

#########HERE#THE#FILTER###############################

#@gimp Contrast Swiss Mask : gimp_contrast_swm2 , gimp_contrast_swm2_preview(0)
#@gimp : sep = separator ()
#@gimp : Blur the mask = float(2,0.5,10)
#@gimp : sep = separator ()
#@gimp : note = note ("Contrast Mask need the negative of the mask")
#@gimp : SKIP to use the mask to boost = bool(false)
#@gimp : note = note ("Uncheck for Contrast Mask,Check for Contrast Boost")
#@gimp : sep = separator ()
#@gimp : note = note("Merge the Mask")
#@gimp : Intensity = float (1,0,1)
#@gimp : sep = separator ()
#@gimp : Preview type = choice("Full","Forward horizontal","Forward vertical","Backward horizontal","Backward vertical")
#@gimp : sep = separator(), note = note("<small>Author : <i>PhotoComiX</i>. Last update : <i>2010/12/26</i>.</small>")
#@gimp : note = link("Filter explained here","http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=864")

gimp_contrast_swm2 :
-repeat @# -l[$>] -split_opacity -l[0]
--luminance -to_rgb
-blur_xy[1] $1,$1
-if {$2==0} -negative[1] -elif {$2==1} -gimp_do_nothing -endif
-reverse[-2,-1] -gimp_compose_hardlight[-2,-1] $3
-endl -a c -endl -done

gimp_contrast_swm2_preview :

-gimp_split_preview "-gimp_contrast_swm2 ${1--2}",$-1

###########END#############

you see in bold "gimp_contrast_swm2" is the name that should be changed, to not conflict
as example just delete a letter will work, as replacing ALL gimp_contrast_swm2 with gimp_contrast_sm2

the prefix "-gimp_" is compulsory don't change but only what after

And then if you change the filter name you should do same correction on his preset in the parenthesys 3 and 4
{GN- CHIAROSCURO}{Graphic Novel FX}{gimp_photocomix_booost2}{gimp_photocomix_booost2}{1}{4.36364}{10.4727}{5}{20}{0.12}{14}{0}{0.54}{2.9}{9}{0}{0.93}{1}{0.5}{0.54}{0.78}

Again all this renaming is not needed for Photocomix Graphic Boost 1 or 2 and for the other filter i did (if you installed the versions i posted here), in that cases you may just add the code in the .gmic file

Sorry for the confusion, I meant a How To specifically for what follows AFTER a new user-made G'MIC filter is created, and how to add any presets to the .gmic_faves. Yesterday, even I wasn't understanding how presets were to be handled and I didn't find any documentation on G'MIC to explain it. I am not referring to a How To for handling older (or outdated) user-made G'MIC filters, such as the one you mention above.

I was just stating that I was using the older filters to test presets with. As you mentioned above, some are outdated and cannot be used, because of changes to G'MIC. But I am testing the older presets with the newer filter, like in this case, Graphic Novel FX.
