Although it's not spherical, this shape makes really cool text.

Thanks! I got some cool and interesting results with that spring map, O.
The transparent areas in the spring map are reflected onto the text/image, making those areas transparent too.
I smoothed the spring just a little to help eliminate artifacts and aliasing.

@Oregonian - your silver shape from last September, just happens to be the official logo of the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC TV)!!
I have got a shiny, patterned one that I mixed up from my borzoi coat colours - example is ...
Probably a bit too patterned for most but here it is anyway ...

Here's a few more maps I named Tiff.
I used each map to create the preview image.
Round 1 Bevel Slope Option was used in BRL,
with default setting for each e-map used.
