Post subject: | Wood E-maps | |||
Teapot has expressed a likeness for and a desire to create wooden mandalas similar to some I have posted recently. Teapot also found an old tutorial of mine on BRL hints for wood and glass shapes and queried its relevance to the mandalas. I thought it was an OK base to start from and indicated I would post some of the wooden e-maps I use. So here they are, picture to show them and e-maps in zip file. Some notes on them: 1. I often use them in combination, using different blend modes to derive the colour I desire (experiment!!) 2. The e-maps I made from a photo I took of a eucalyptus tree deliver a more metallic look, but again, I often overlay with light gold colours in grain merge mode ... more experimentation! 3. I often use a copy of the dark cherry outcome in overlay or multiply mode too

For those who may like darker wood e-maps I have attached 3 more, being mahogany, merbau and one called mahogany_hair, which came from ... yes a picture of a girls new hair colour ![]() I have shown an image of the e-maps below along with an example of their use - note that the 'selection' I used for the BRL was made from a glass brush, which you can see is shaped and given the opacity changes in that image, the BRL, outcome reflects that shape. In the next post, because I have too many attachments in this one, there is a larger example of a selection with modified opacity (blurring) in the centre - you can see the stark difference in the BRL outcomes. Something to ponder and play with ![]()

Here is the blurred example I refered to in previous post. In each case the complete square was selected for BRL action.
