Thank you MareroQ!

I have set the icons off by default, because I believe they clutter the menus needlessly. The general idea is to simplify things as much as possible, without compromising the overall functionality. That, plus making it a little easier for the eye to distinguish currently important (enabled, adjustable, etc) elements on the screen.

Regarding the menus specifically, in popular commercial image-processors (Photoshop, Corel PaintShop Pro, Affinity Photo) it is pretty standard for menu entries to be icon-free.

I do understand though that it can also be a personal preference, and that's why I have included that particular edit in the Readme file.

In any case, thank you for bringing this up. I think many Gimp users will appreciate your post!

PS. Speaking of Photoshop, I recently finished a quite thorough Ps2018+ shortcuts set for Gimp 2.10.20. Meant for people who are switching from Ps to Gimp (who will eventually end up using Gimp native shortcuts, but still). Those shortcuts should work fine on any platform, with any theme.

Very good readme.txt - I learned a lot from it (only I know that few spend time reading and analyzing it ... ).

Thank you very much MarereoQ!

I totally agree! Very few people read Readme files (or doc files in general). Unless they face a problem (LOL) in which case they may read, or have someone else pointing them to the particular section of the docs.

This is why I much appreciate your post regarding the menu icons! Thanks again!

I didn't say about one:
it doesn't work for Linux - the menu icons are always visible.

Oh, I didn't know that!

I really don't know why. Maybe on Linux that setting gets overridden by the GTK2 runtime? And maybe there is a command I'm not aware of, which can be added to the theme's gtkrc file to force it for Gimp only? I honestly have no clue.

The themes work in Windows 10 64 Bit and they work with the Theme Selector if you are using it.

I am using the Clearlooks Light SMALL (Pink Hints)v1.2.1

In order for the themes to work the gtkrc file for each theme needs to be in a folder named gtk-2.0.

Thanks migf1 for the themes. :)

Hi everyone new here

posted over in the gimp forum and someone gave a link to this thread.

Been using PSP for over 20+ yrs, so i thought i'd give gimp another look.
Anyways got gimp setup to feel a little like PSP and found 4 black themes and picked one i liked.
2 days ago i upgraded to Gimp 2.10.24 and now none of the black work they are all white.

Going thru the thead i went to deviant art link and found "PaintShop-Pro-2020-Shortcuts-for-Gimp-2-10-20". Just what i would like to try and make me feel at home.

But what i'd like to know is has it been tested with Gimp 2.10.24??? Hate to go thru install and setup only to find it does not work with the new Gimp.

Thanks - rider45

Could not wait so tired one of the "Clearlooks Gimp 2.10 Color Hinted Themes"
And it does not work right in the new gimp 2.10.24, all the text menus are a washed out white with very light grey text. The background does work, i tried "Clearlooks Dark (Orange Hints) v1.2.1" but the text highlight only part work. Docks have orange text highlights but toolbox has blue highlights.

I have now tried 5 black themes with the new gimp and none work.

Anybody have any clue?

thanks - rider45

Hi Rider45

You might feel "alone" on this one as almost nobody are using theme outside of the native themes of GIMP.
If there are people using them, they will come, but have patience.

A suggestion while waiting for some one who has the theme you are speaking about,
Why don't you use the native dark theme or the system theme if your system is in Dark mode? (Edit / Preferences / Interface / Theme)
There are 4 themes (did you tried them?):
Dark
Gray
Light
System

Below "Theme", in the preferences you have "Icon Theme", here as well you can chose "live" the type of icons you want
Below "Icon Theme" you have "Toolbox", there you can un-tick "Use tool Group", you can drag 'n drop a tool above or below another tool, etc.

And don't forget, the themes you are actually using, might not be very used, so very few people might have it, thus have patience that one of these person sees your post ;)

Have a great day

Hi,
Rider45,

For me, I have Windows 10 64 Bit and I used the theme selector to make the themes work. The theme selector is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFu_7rDaoIw

If you have Windows it works. It just takes a while to install it.
