yah that bottom flip is very confusing in the video and in my tute. I just did the Canada, went to text along path and now I can't move it into place, got to go take a break, then come back and huff and puff some more.

If I remember right. To do the bottom, you just flip the path, if that makes sense.

It isn't the flip I am having the prob with, I made a selection with my Ellipse tool sent it to path, turned selection off. typed my text... right clicked and text to path. It made a path with the text but I can't move it with my move tool or any other tool. I have done this so many times and now it won't work. Anyway, I have all night to grrrrr about it.

Not sure if I'm very good at explaining things, but I'll give it a shot.

Make sure you save your text "along a path". You'll see the pink outline of the text show up. Add a transparent layer in your layers tab. Make sure it is selected. Go to your Path tab and make sure you have the text selected in the Paths tab. Click on "path to selection and your should get the crawling ants on your screen. Go back to the Transparent layer your created and fill the crawling ants with some kind of color, usually black. Then deselect. In the Transparent layer, you should now have your converted text as a curved text. Then you should be able to move and rotate as you wish.

Let me know if I explained it alright. :)

not sure if i understand the problem, but all you have to do is set the Move tool to paths and then you can move the text path around as you wish

same with the Rotation and Scale tool

here is a screenshot i borrowed from one of my older tutorials, to illustrate:

EDIT: you can also try ofnuts`excellent 'text along path' python script:

That is what I forgot to do. change the mode from layers to paths. It has been so long since I did this, I forgot, thanks. I do have the text along path, have had it since day one. The dialogues are changed around so much since gimp 2.6. Anyway, thanks for reminding me.

This is as far as I got so far with my toonie. I had to redo the text and I am starting over with the beaver. not sure whether I will bump it on or paste and blend it. I will also do some bumping or something with the text. I have some shadows to add also.

Thanks Tux.
What do y'all think now. I am not sure about the text. I ended up cutting out the bear from the coin cuz I didn't like the bump map I did of it.

dont know if molly did it that way, but you can stroke a path with different line styles
there are presets, one called 'dense dots'

I used the dense dots Moko on a separate layer and then on another separate layer I did a 2 pixel stroke and blurred it 5 pixels and turned down the opacity to 75.

molly: admirable work on all the coins, i think this one looks really good - maybe some more contrast in the actual nickel though?

Thank you AnMal. That was the hardest part. I tried lots of different gradients. Silver seems the hardest.

Thanks Eris.

AnMal, I did what you suggested. I redid the silver with a different gradient and a few tweaks and I think it is much better. I also redid the gold with more shine. Then I bumped the beaver to give him some depth and I also bumped all the text. I am pleased with this one.
