I just realized all the brushes that I had downloaded in the past are gone....just <<Poof>> Bye! Bye!

Don't know if this has anything to do with me trying to transfer over some new fonts unsuccessfully last night. But I never touched anything having to do with the brushes.

I did however accidentally close my toolbox/dockable tab box and had to remake one. Don't know if that had anything to do with it either.

Please help because I'm freaking out.....have a TON of editing on my daughter's engagement photos this weekend and I'm going to need them. :gaah

They are still showing up in my C:/ProgramFiles/GIMP2/Brushes folder so I don't understand why they wouldn't be in the actual program.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I'm no GIMP dummy but I am definitely scratching my head over here, lol. :gaah

Thank you!

~Carol Sue

Thank you for that file.....these are still in my program thank goodness. My problem is all the brushes I downloaded last year aren't showing up.
Like I said they are still in my C:/ProgramFiles/GIMP2/Brushes folder, but when I open GIMP the brushes I downloaded are not there, only the basic ones that come with the program.

Possible solution.

Copy the brushes your need to your personal gimp folder - C:\Users\you\.gimp-2.8\brushes

Restart GIMP.

Well that could possibly work ....but then again not....since I am the only user on my computer. The only thing listed under C:\Users is these "Default.migrated", "Public" and "Store".
No one else uses my computer but me so no need to add any other users.

I just want to see the downloaded brushes that I have showing up in my Program Files to show up in GIMP when I open it.

Is there a way to refresh the program? (Other than clicking the refresh button below the brushes box) Do I need to go into something somewhere in the program itself?

Man I feel like an idiot or that I'm speaking martian or something that I'm not being understood what it is I'm exactly needing. Please don't be offended....it's just me being frustrated with my own dang self for somehow screwing this thing up.

I've been using GIMP for nearly 3 years now and consider myself more than the average amateur .....but right now I feel like a silly infant. Ugh!

"C:/ProgramFiles/GIMP2/Brushes" isn't a standard place for brushes. Go to Edit>Preferences>Folders>Brushes this tells you where Gimp looks for brushes. Either move the brushes in one of them (preferably the one in your own directopies) or add "C:/ProgramFiles/GIMP2/Brushes" as a third folder.

Are you sure you have not inadvertently selected one of your brush folders, could you post a screenshot of your gimp with your brushes dialogue open

If it's there, and you can see it, it's real.
If it's not there, and you can see it, it's virtual.
If it's there, and you can't see it, it's transparent.
If it's not there, and you can't see it, you erased it.

@ ofnuts :

I absolutely LOVE YOU right now!!!!! You solved the problem!
When I did as you suggested and checked in the Preferences and then cross referenced where I currently had the downloaded brushes stored ....the downloaded ones were in the wrong place. (How they'd been working before I don't have a clue, lol.)
So I went ahead and took the entire folder of the downloaded brushes and transferred it over to:
C:\ProgramFiles\GIMP2\share\gimp\2.0\brushes

Then restarted the program and....BAM! There they were!
Wonder if this will work with the fonts I downloaded but can't seem to get to show up? Got any tips on that? Oh Guru???

You are the shiznit!!!!! You have saved the day! And you have saved the wedding invites, too!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :hi5 :ninja :clap :jumpclap

Just one question.....what color is your superhero cape?

Yes if you installed them for Gimp only.
