Check out https://fonts.google.com/ where you can view the fonts and download only those you want.
No one wants to wait for 800 plus fonts to load. :gaah

It is a great collection. Use the links to view on-line.
or
Make a catalogue and browse off-line. 900 families of fonts, some obviously contain more than one variety. A couple of thousand font files over-all.

This is my catalogue as PDF's and not particularly up-to-date, from 2018 The collection has more recent additions, apparently now 999, Not making another ;)

For me, the zip file only took 2-5 minutes to download. It's installing them that takes a while. The fonts are in 3 folders: Apache (contains a long list of folders), OFL (another long list of folders), and UFL(3 ubuntu font folders).

Thanks Mackenzieh. :hi5

I downloaded and extracted the *.ttf files.
There are exactly 3734 of them.
It will take a long time to browse - but it's worth the download.

That is exactly what you do not do No wonder your computer is constipated.

1. Get a decent 2 pane file manager, MultiCommander (freeware) is not bad, there are others.
2. Instead of that PITA Gimp 2.10 roaming folder, make your own somewhere easy to find.
3. Add the folder location to Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Fonts
4. Click on a font file to inspect, if required copy it across. When no longer needed delete.

All about taking control (as much as it is possible with MS) of your computer.

Rich2005,
It's not my computer, it's how the site compiled these fonts into a ton of folders. Try downloading the zip file, and opening the 3 folders I mentioned above and then open up the other folders. You'll see what I mean. I just go for the fonts, not the files and the fonts in the folders.

I use NexusFont on Windows to browse, categorize and load only the fonts that I need.

You're welcome MareoQ. I copy and past the fonts into my GIMP fonts folder and in my Windows fonts folder. Other wise, GIMP won't have the fonts, but the other programs I have on my laptop will. It it most definitely worth the download. After this though, I think I'll be all set with fonts. I have too many as it is! :rofl

Did that but a couple of years ago ;)

I have all the ttf versions nicely archived on an external USB disk.

I have a catalogue of the fonts in PDF format. (see earlier post)

Just my advice not to install lots of fonts. Choose as and when required and put in your Gimp fonts folder.

Oh, I see what you mean. That's great advice. I'll keep that in mind. :)
