Looking for a realistic looking embroidery font

Wed Jan 08, 2014 4:25 pm

Can any recommend a good font that looks like actual embroidery?

I have attached some examples of mock-ups using an 'embroidered' font type

Thanks!

Wallace, the first and the third link to fonts are images. Is there a way to download the fonts?

I did see some more realistic ones but they weren't free. They were $40 to $50. Anyway, there is probably a way to make it in gimp.

True. Yeah i was hoping someone might have knowledge of how to create this effect from virtually any font within Gimp.

Wallace's plugin suggestion may be a start

Thanks again mackenzieh, but it just doesn't look realistic. Looks more cartoony

They are not fonts, it's an image from an embroidery website that does this on shirts, hats and other stuff.

No problem. ;)
There are some PS tutorials out there about this, but I don't think it can be translated into Gimp.

Also there's an application extension or plugin for Gimp called "Photo Font". What it does is make fonts out of images to be used in Gimp.
So the images I showed you in the links could be made as a "photo font" and then used in Gimp.
There's a thread by "Rod" about this somewhere. I have this plugin installed and have even created my own font to use with it in gimp. It's called "Pipeline". Have a look here... http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 30#p102126

My Embroidery Stitcher filter doesn't do too bad a job. :)
Create your text any color. Merge it down to a white background layer. Run the script.
Select the layer and go to Colors>Colorize and set the values like so (Hue can be anything) the other sliders should be close to the ones i chose.
Image
Now use the color select tool and select the black area of the image and hit delete OR
Select Colors>Color to Alpha and select black.

Now fill the bottom layer with a patter such as denim. :)

Script can be found here -

Keep in mind this script does not have a dialog so don't expect one to pop up. :)
It merely takes the colored image or text and creates the effect with no added input. :bigthup

Another example with a different font type. [Kicking Limos] I added a drop shadow also. Black 2x2 pixel offset [ x and y ] with a blur radius of 8.
