We all spend a lot of time on the internet chasing down just the right pattern or texture for the particular project we are working on at the moment. Here we can post our favorite or unusual patterns and textures for everyone to share. If you have quite a few, you might want to make a jpeg with thumbnails of the contents of the zip file so others can tell what's inside. I hope everyone jumps on this cuz i could definitely uses more stuff to fill up my already bulging hard drive.

Just to start this off, here's the stone pattern I made and posted in another thread and another one where I added a "cracks" layer in multiply mode. If the "cracked stone" is too dark, just go to Colors>Levels and make it a bit lighter.

You can post the pattern images as thumbnails Image and they will resize when clicked. Beats lots of scrolling. Here are a few I found in an old backup patterns folder. I must have collected these at various locations around the web several years ago.

Here are two sets of patterns that I posted on deviantART last year.

The zip files contain the png's so it's easier to view and sort the patterns.

Now that I know I have this option, how exactly is this accomplished? Great pats btw, snagged 'em.

I see the insert thumbnail thingy but do I need to upload the pic first to get the link first and then enter it before I use the thumbs button? I tried to do that and .pat files are not allowed.

First, you can't post .pat files as images. You CAN post them as attachments.

Click the thumbnail icon Image and paste the path to the image in the dialog if you already have the path to the image.

If you upload the images in Gimp Chat you will need to remove the image tags Image after you add an image to the post, highlight the path and click the thumbnail icon.

Clicking the thumbnail will expand it to full size.

OK. Thumbs are for images (pics) only. I guess I'll have to convert all my pat files to images first then upload as thumbs? Placing them in all in a zip file and then "attaching" them is easy but you can't see what's in the file.

Yep. It's a pesky business. Gotta have regular image extensions to demo the patterns in the post.

One way you can do it is to open an image and use the grid-guides script to cut your image into regular areas with guides and use the rectangle select tool with a fixed size (mine is 100x100 and my image was cut by the guide lines into 100x100 sized areas. The rectangle tool will snap to the guides and you can moved it from one square to the next to fill it.

Get the Grid of guides script here.
http://registry.gimp.org/node/12003

Then you can zip the regular-sized patterns and attach them.

Thanks O. I snagged the script. Works great! Here's a few to play with. I may have some in there that are native to gimp but I couldn't remember If I alreay had them or aquired them elsewhere. After completing the arranging I realized I had a duplicate in there. I think I got them all in the attached files.

Unfortunately there are quite a few and had to make four zip files.

The rest of these are just pics I had stuffed into my generic folders for patterns, textures and backgrounds. A few of them are seemless.

i am flooded by my own pattern, i will not know what to chose

my last was a series of bw semitransparent pattern, (that may be combined togheter) that and more here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocomix_mandala/sets/

expecially for the semitransparent be sure to download the images at ORIGINAL size, or you will get a rescaledand flattened jpg instead then the png with transparences

also you may like some huge ex "screentone" pattern here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocomix ... 579083688/

This is one example (and i may have more still to be uploaded )

Image
big pattern2 by PhotoComix_Mandala, on Flickr

NOTE that the pattern original size is much bigger ,here i used as BG

Image

here combined with concentric circles

Image

Oppss i must still upload a serie of geometrical semitransparent pattern made of fire... will be soon on my flickr

Great stock texture site and you don't have to join to get them.
