I thought I'd create a thread to share Environment Maps. Here are a few spherical maps that work well with the Bevel Reflect Script. Post any Environment maps you'd like to share here.

How about a brown one, made for a gradient called "Browns".

I have forgotten, do environment maps have to be the same layer size as what you are working on? And therefore, I am not so sure how to use round ones as opposed to the straight side ones?

Sorry 2-ton, I had mine made long time ago and I don't remember now how I made it. I think I made it using other way, I'll try to remember how I made it. I don't know how to do sphere with Environment Map neither (my Spanish Gimp is very weird). I don't find the things or I don't have them. I suppose.

2-ton, spherical environment maps ,like these, are meant to be used with the ML Bevel Reflect plug-in and/or the Bevel Reflect Logo script. In general, spherical maps that include transparent sections don't seem to work very well. Neither do maps that contain certain images. I've found that spheres in the range of 250px to 350px seem to work well, but I suppose it's possible that larger or smaller spheres might also produce some interesting results.

Flat environment maps are normally used with GIMP's lighting filter or with the EnviroLogo script, (which uses the lighting filter). I must admit that I've never tried spherical (or circular) environment maps with GIMP's lighting filter, but it might be an interesting experiment. When used with the lighting effects filter, the size of the environment map can have a dramatic effect on the result, especially when using a gradient, pattern or an image as a map. Through experimenting, I've found that flat emaps consisting of patterns, gradients and images should be at least twice the size of the target image, and it some cases, even larger. Remember that environment maps used with GIMP's lighting effects filter (or the EnviroLogo Script) cannot contain an Alpha channel. If they do, they simply won't work.

THanks for the refresher course. I have not tried out the bevel reflect on a mac as yet. Might be something I should get around to soon. So many scripts, so little time!

Here's 17 maps I made. Haven't used all of them, so can't tell you how good, or bad they are.
