Well after a long shot, and fighting a gimp bug (not to mention work), I got it done.
Here is my entry if it's not too late ;D

The concept is good but I agree that it seems a bit dark. It would be an interesting contrast against the light background.

That's pretty creative AnMal. I'm gonna have to get busy and get some of these up and running.

Aww but I like it dark ;P . I'll lighten it up a bit. Maybe use a different gradient.

They are all amazing. You all must have worked so hard on these. Well appreciated by others.

I really like the chiseled looking text ZWard117.
I am sure this is a Capitol Letter B and not a G though. Huh????

Well, you know Gimp has several connotations and I'm sure the occasional surfer shows up here thinking the topic of discussion is something other than what it actually is. :lol

I believe we have a member here who has a blog called Gimp Pimp.

I can't paint. None from me. Carry on.

I have a font called Fiorne which is similar to this and the G looks almost the same as this.

Very pretty font.... but the G still looks like a B to me.
But the S looks like a G.

Capitol K looks like an R.
Capitol H looks like an L.
Capitol N looks like an H.
Capitol S looks like a G. (looks nothing like an S)
Capitol V looks like a D.
Capitol W looks like a M.
Capitol Z looks like a B.

Lowercase v looks like D.
Lowercase w looks like m.

I am not dyslexic. But maybe I am now after this...
For the reasons above... I would never use that font. So pretty though.
Thanks akky for the list ! :D

I agree Barbie. If you didn't know what the letters were supposed to be you wouldn't be able to read it.
We know that it says Gimp Chat so we decided that the G was a G even though it does look like a B.
I wouldn't use that font either, even though it is a pretty font.
