Really like that one Mike! My first thought before reading Odinbc's comment was "Wow.. Clean and punchy".

My only criticism would be that Wilbur looks a little bit isolated - I'm not totally sure how you would go about integrating him into the image more though! Maybe make him a little bigger and shift him left to possibly overlay some of his snout onto the text? A larger Wilbur would give more opportunity for his brush to overhang onto the forum page too which is a nice feature of the current logo.

Have to smile that in the logos I've looked at so far the Windows logo generally seems to get demoted :)

Nice work with some great creativity being demonstrated with these banners.

Looks like we are going to have a lot of good ones to choose from. :gimp

Also, I would appreciate it if the full xcf file could be attached. Most banners will have to be tweaked slightly to get them fit into the theme of the website so having the xcf with all the individual layers will make that much easier.

I like them all. Tux's going to have a hard time to choose which one to pick. :)

I figure we will rotate more than one, Lyle. That way, everyone's efforts get displayed.

I like your design Rod but it brings up an issue with the banner that I neglected to mention.

The banner actually consists of two parts. The banner itself and what I'll call a "sliver" taken from the edge of the banner.

The "slivers" are simply repeated (tiled) on both sides of the banner. This allows the banner to float in the middle and fill to the left and right of the screen, no matter the user's screen resolution. So, the edges of any banner would need to created in such away to allow it to seamlessly repeat (tile) using that sliver. The background pattern you are using is cool but we would need the edges to be tweaked to allow the seamless tiling. This is the current sliver being used.

I added the xcf to my last banner post
I was wondering how you could use these without stretching them, I know a little about HTML and less about CSS
Andy

There all looking great :coolthup

Took a quick stab at this. Been kinda busy lately. I saved the xcf in case you guys like it so I can fix the text at the bottom where the glow got cut off when I forgot to do the layer to image size thing first. The pattern is supposed to fade to black so hopefully doesn't present the problem with the edges.

My last Edit: I made the button a bit smaller and raised it as per Eris's suggestion and I like it better. The xcf file below is before the button shrinking was done.

I agree. I think Molly's keeps the colourfulness of the original which I like. The three operating systems look better in a circle as well IMO.

Still working on mine.

Thank you Eris, I was wondering if that circle should have been smaller. I made so many changes that there isn't much left to change. I did the right side over when I got the transparent brushes. The other way was too messy.

Maybe a touch smaller and more over to the left Molly.

I may be wrong but if tiling is required, your image to the right will break the banner's flow.

I don't understand what you are saying anarkhya. Do you mean that stuff on the right should be moved over?

hmm well yes it might sound a bit vague :D

A picture: http://s7.postimage.org/ijqqqbpuj/image.jpg
As you can see, you made a kind of "boxed banner" on one side and as the website seems to use an extensible layout, it could break the feeling, this is what I wanted to point out.

Yes. That is what i was referring to in the following post..

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4742&start=20#p59202

The left and right edges of the banner should be designed in such a way as to be able to extend seamlessly in either direction. A seamless pattern could be used as a banner background, which would mean the "sliver" would need be the exact width of the seamless pattern used. This facilitates the ability to extend the banner seamlessly left and right, no matter the user's screen resolution. It's basically just a design choice that allows more of a floating layout, rather than a fixed width website.

I like your preview, anarkhya.

Hi here is my effort, I tried to keep it simple with two original brushes and a logo. There is a one pixel erasure on the edges of all layers except for the background layer. The file is 930X200 px .png

Image

I have the xcf but do not know how to upload it

EditThank You Molly, I was unaware that an XCF could be uploaded in this way. The png can easily be made more vibrant if required with the xcf

After reading Deblk's comment about brighter colours , I altered the layers sequence and used different layer modes
