GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Maybe I'm blind but I can't seem to figure out how to upload the jpeg for my signature like I see in many of the posts. I see a button just like here for "upload file" and "insert image" but nothing happens when I click on insert image. I used the upload file and it took but I don't see my graphics just the text. Am I missing something?

BTW - I read the entire thread regarding the use of this form and it seems simple enough but how does one determin their "experience level" is there a criteria we can review. My personal thoughts was to put the really basic infor like OS and Gimp version in the profile info so it would automatically appear below the users avatar. Just a thought.

That, I just recently learned, is because you have to host your image somewhere else -- I'm using photobucket -- and link back to you signature.

Draconian,
Go to user control panel on top right, just below Wilber
Click profile half way down under options on the left
Click edit signature
Click the upload file button up top between the anchor and the insert table button
click browse,
locate your file, then click add file
then click submit. That will place your sig into your profile.

Ooops. Sorry for not explaining better, but kudos to Molly for always taking up where we - me - slackers leave off. Haha.

been there, done that....the browse part is for looking for the jpeg in my computer and when I just tried it again (the upload file button) it says the file already exists.....but no sig as you can see in this reply.

I put the file up on flickr and uploade it using the insert image button but still nothing.

try changing the name of the file, once you try to upload with a file, it won't try again with the same filename.

I did that and still nothing. What about this hosting the pic and linking back. How do I do that?

I noticed both of you have the same size sig, is that relavant? Is there a size limit like for the avatar?

Use the upload button Image to directly upload an image to Gimp Chat. A link to that image will be displayed after the upload is complete. You can use that link to insert the uploaded image into a post or into your signature block.

There is a submit button that allows you to insert the uploaded image into a post at the current cursor position. There have been reports that the submit button doesn't work properly with some versions of Internet explorer. In that case, simply copy and past the link manually.

Good suggestions but it's likely that many members will not bother to place their OS and gimp version in their profile so that's why we ask in the form. We get quite a few peeps who sign up to ask one question and then we never see them again. The OS version (and other info) can be automatically obtained from the browser a member uses, unless they are blocking that info, but we can't be sure the member is posting from the OS the question is in relation to.

You make a valid point regarding experience level. In terms of answering a GIMP related question, I think it can be useful to know whether someone is a beginner or whether they have some level of experience with GIMP. Of course, none of those fields are required to get help here and the fields can be ignored (or deleted) by the poster.

Site related questions are better suited to the Gimp Chat Site Support section.
