I read the entire thread regarding the use of this form and it seems simple enough but how does one determin their "experience level" is there a criteria we can review. My personal thoughts was to put the really basic infor like OS and Gimp version in the profile info so it would automatically appear below the users avatar.
Good suggestions but it's likely that many members will not bother to place their OS and gimp version in their profile so that's why we ask in the form. We get quite a few peeps who sign up to ask one question and then we never see them again. The OS version (and other info) can be automatically obtained from the browser a member uses, unless they are blocking that info, but we can't be sure the member is posting from the OS the question is in relation to.
You make a valid point regarding experience level. In terms of answering a GIMP related question, I think it can be useful to know whether someone is a beginner or whether they have some level of experience with GIMP. Of course, none of those fields are required to get help here and the fields can be ignored (or deleted) by the poster.
Site related questions are better suited to the Gimp Chat Site Support section.
