Facebook has 'em, and I've seen a lot of forums with them too. There are times where I don't want to really say anything back, but I want to acknowledge that I read it and...well...liked it.

Is there any way we would consider adding this to the gimpchat forums?

I've often thought of the same thing for the Registry, where we can "like" a plug-in or script, without having to comment.

The whole purpose of a forum is to post your opinion on a certain post.
I really think adding a "like" button takes away from that.

I can see that, but there are often times when I don't have anything to say other than "I agree."

There are several mods that integrate an actual Facebook button but that requires a Gimp Chat account and an interface with Facebook so that's not gonna happen.

There are several other mods that are tied to users, like the Karma mod, the "Thank You" mod and Reputation mod. All of these mods allow members to give points to other members, based on whether or not they like a given post. The total number of points a member has received is displayed under each member's avatar.

There is also a "Topic Rating" mod that allows members to rate a topic (0-5 stars). The average topic rating is displayed next to the topic title when you view a forum.

There is a phpBB mod in development that adds a "like" button to a topic (not per post), but from what I can tell, it already has bloat and it's not even into beta release. Such is the way these things go. Having said that, this one might be worth keeping an eye on. I'll check it out and see if it might be something worth integrating into Gimp Chat.

Well, on other forums, we just use +1 (this was before Google integrated the same method) the only problem I see with that here is there is no reply tier on Gimp Chat, it's just stacked (all posts stacked on each other without any indentation). So, you'd be required to quote a user's post and then +1, which is really what you are wanting a simple button click for, right?

I must say that i NEVER pushed a like button

No special reasons just but i always ignore it, even if i may like a lot the thing and would take less then 1 second

Easier that i decide to spend more time to post a comment

Me too PC. The like button doesn't interest me at all. Comments are more personal

The point system style mods normally place clickable icons in the body of each post so you don't need to reply to give someone +1 (or -1). Just click the icon.

The "Like" mod places an icon at the top of each topic. When you click the "Like" icon, it adds +1 to the "like count" for that topic and optionally places your username on a line underneath, displaying something like this..

Members who like this thread: mahvin, PhotoComix, GnuTux ...and so on.
