I find the new style rotating banner quite distracting. Is there a way to turn this off?

Thanks!

Yes, you can click Board Preferences in your User Control Panel and select GimpChat2 as your style This will return you to the static default banner.

The banners are currently being rotated so everyone who worked hard to submit a banner will have their banner displayed. The plan is to modify the number, and change rate frequency, over time, keeping the best banners submitted, while rotating them less frequently. The banners should be cached by your browser, so once cached, they won't have to be reloaded, unless the cache clears.

Thanks GnuTux. Appreciate your feedback. I am wondering why in the static version there is no banner at all. :)

I'm not sure why you are not seeing the banner. I've cleared the site cache and the banner is hard coded in the GimpChat2 style..

It's visible for me in FireFox 15.

What browser are you using and have you tried clearing your cache?

I am using Firefox nightly 64-bit version on Windows 7 64-bit. Probably something weird with this browser. It's OK in Chrome.

In GimpChat2 style, I had just changed the vector index in the random banner javascript code to a constant. Maybe your Firefox is still blocking that script.

I've now pulled the static banner out of javascript and coded it static in PHP. Clear your browser cache and give it another try in Firefox. It's now loaded from here..

I've had some issues with Firefox 15+, something's not right with it. Bugzilla has a bunch of posts on it.
At GC I know AdBlock Plus all of a sudden had issues with the banner. OK now.

Ad block probably detected the rotating banner code and assumed it was ADs, rather than banners. A case of heuristic design not working out. :hehe

Glad to hear that worked. :bigthup

There are currently 7 banners, rotating at 10 minute intervals, when using the default style.

The rotating banner is done with javascript, Photocomix.

My guess is that a Firefox addon is blocking the rotating javascript script.

I'm using Firefox 15 and the banners rotate just fine. I also use noscript but I allow gimpchat.com & gimpscripts.com because both sites require javascript for full functionality.

To return to a single static banner, you can click Board Preferences in your User Control Panel and select GimpChat2 as your style.
