Direct Image Uploads

You will not have to go to outside sources such as PhotoBucket, ImageShack, etc., to upload images in Gimp Chat. Gimp Chat has it's own upload site and it is preferred that you use it instead of an outside upload site.

Images files and attachments have been limited to: 5 Megabytes = 5,242,880 bytes. That should be large enough for most images and GIF animations.

Larger images should be uploaded to off-site image repositories.

Click the Image button, click the Browse button and find your image on your hard drive. Click the Add the file button and wait for it to upload.

When it has uploaded, click the Submit button. It will be entered into your post complete with the tags.

Image

If you want your image centered or moved to the right, you can click the Center justify button or Right justify button before uploading your image or you can highlight your image and tags and click one of the justify buttons.

If you have a large image you can use the thumbnail feature. Image You will need to remove the image tags then press the Image button and paste the link to the image in the box.

GnuTux has made it possible to put attachments in your posts. You can attach files of any kind like GIMP brushes, gradients, scripts, xcf files, images and other files you want to make easy for people to download.

Below the Post a reply box is the place to Upload Attachments. Click the Browse file, Add the file and after it is uploaded, Submit.

Image

Here is myimage.png attached.

If you want the attachment inline press the Place Inline button. That way it can be moved about in your post to put it in strategic places in your post.

btw, seems I can upload my pics, but can't submit them to post. So after I upload and add, I copy the code and paste it in my message. But I swear some of the pics I uploaded went into the message without my having to copy and paste.

Unlike the demo pic in the first post of this thread, you won't see the submit box until you add an image file. There is code that detects whether or not you are uploading an image. If it is determined that you are uploading an image, you should get a submit box. If it's not an image, you won't see the submit box and you'll need to cut and paste.

What browser are you using and what is the file extension of the file you are uploading that doesn't display a submit box after you add the file? Please feel free to test upload various images. We can delete the any test files that are left over.

I think this is a brilliant idea. It saves so much time by not having to upload things before you can post them here.

I'm gonna try it out now.

Hey silvertayl.
First of all, welcome to GimpChat, so glad you joined. Secondly, I just love that little bug, it is so cute.
I would love to make a nice brooch out of it and wear it on a jacket. :wh

Tux, I do get the submit button, right under the img file code, but I can click on it and nothing happens ...sometimes. But sometimes is works fine. I am thinking it might have something to do with my computer, my pictures seems to bog down my computer a lot. It's not really a problem, as I copy the link before I hit submit just in case I have to copy/paste. It is so nice not to have to go over to photobucket! I have been uploading png files.

Thanks fellow Gimpers :tyspin

I should have read the bit about deleting the image code before I posted my ladybug.

My resolution is 1440x900 but I'm wondering what prompted your remark. :puzzled

My resolution is 1440x900 too. And my screen is 17 inch.

You always post pretty small images but I never gave it a second thought until that thumbnail that is about the size of an actual thumbnail. Then I wondered if for you it looked larger. Image

I don't know why your thumbnail is smaller than mine. Seems a little odd. My little image has a big one, your larger image has a tiny one.

Actually, both of those thumbnails are the same width. Thumbnails are scaled to 60px wide. The height will vary to maintain the correct aspect ratio of the original image.

If you can, maybe you could make the width a bit bigger? 60pixels with a border makes a tiny thumbnail. Imagine what it's gonna look like if someone posts a thumbnail of a panorama image.

O, a bigger screen with the same resolution makes the images look bigger to you. The pixels are further apart. Just like with a small and big screen TV.

Sure, I can change that to something larger. Although, I do think it makes sense to keep it under 150px.

Unlike the demo pic in the first post of this thread, you won't see the submit box until you add an image file.

There is code that detects whether or not you are uploading an image. If it is determined that you are uploading an image file type (gif, png, jpg), you should get a submit box. This works consistently for me using Firefox 3.5.x or Opera 10.10.

We can try to find out why it's not working on your PC, so I can seek a solution, or at least a reason why you don't get a submit box.

1) What browser are you using and what is the version of the browser?

2) Have you tried it in more than one browser to determine if it is browser related?

3) Are you having the problem with all file extensions (gif, jpg, png) or only some of them?

Please feel free to test upload various images to get the answer to these questions. We can delete the any test files that are left over.
