Lost Marjorie, one our hooded rats. I didn't think she looked right this morning, then I thought she either had a stroke or a pituitary tumor. I took her out and carried her around with me then put her in bed for a minute while I vacuumed the living room floor. When I came back she had just died, there was still movement inside her but no heartbeat or respiration. That's a thing about them, they'll hold out as long as they can if they can be with people. She was mainly my wife's girl but we both cared about her. We got her because she looked like Miriam, my wife's most special girl that lived 4 1/2 years. Marjorie was a little less than a year old.

Sorry to here that GMS. I've never owned a rat but my sister had an albino for I would say at least 5 years before it passed. The rat loved to be put on her shoulder. It was original my nephews rat, but he would never take care of it, but my sister did a pretty good job doing so.

Yeah, mine is on my shoulder as much as possible, I've given up the company of people to be with her. 5 years is a very very old age for a rat. 3 to 4 is about as much as can be expected. My other one was 4 1/2. The ratio is 30 to 1. 1 rat year = 30 people years, a 3 year old rat is like a 90 year old person. They have a very fast metabolism, it common for a rat's heart to beat over 300 times a second.

Sorry you lost another 'friend'. I still think of my pet rat, Speedy. He loved to eat butter when we would sneak him on the table, lol.

Way too many. 30 rats, 9 ferrets, 4 worthless dogs, my African grey parrot, my dove, and my wife's rabbit. we had Marjorie die yesterday and I have one to my cousin because she wanted one as a room mate for her rat and we got 2 new ones last week so my count of 30 should be accurate.

Wow, you have a lot of pets. O.o
We (when I was lil) used to have like 20 hamsters or sth, a ferret, 2 birds, dog and cat.

I'm sorry for your loss of your lil friend, I lost my ferret when I was 11, she was so sweet, lived a long time too actually.
