Our library's "barracuda" filter is preventing me from downloading open source software including G'MIC, supposedly due to spyware or other malware. I want to be able to put in a complaint but might need more detail. Does anybody know why this might be happening?

It might have to do with the fact that it's associated with sourceforge, whose reputation has deservedly taken a big hit recently.

There are sites that redistribute OSS with a custom installers that also install malware, and this is unfortunately true of Gimp.

I believe one of the settings is to prevent ANY installer sites (that is what we have at work) to prevent individuals from installing software.

The library here usually allows downloads of installers but you can't run exe files on their computers. I just download to my stick to bring home.

Downloading any software is not allowed at my local Library either, Erisian. In your case because it's your source it's unfortunate but for a Public Library makes sense. If you need anything Erisian please ask, I'm sure one of us could email or post an archive file here of any Gimp stuff you might need. Can you still download archive files (zip)?

Libraries can have some interesting filters one time I was searching for typography and used 'text' in the query. The filters pop-up thinking I was searching for sex. :rofl

I never thought of trying to download the zip. When I first started using the library computers I was a little concerned about typing the word Gimp but it doesn't seem to have caused any problems :hehe
