I grew up on the Waltons when I was a kid. It still is one of my favorite shows along with House on the Prairie. Wholesome shows just don't exist anymore. You will be missed and may you rest in peace Mr. Waite.

Three greats gone within days of each other. Shirley Temple, Sid Caesar and now Ralph Waite.

I agree with you 100% - wholesome shows went out with innocence and respect. What a shame.

Mentioned as much on the render's Flickr Dalia. Things like this come in threes and lets hope no more.

Loved the Waltons. Grew up a stone's throw from Earl Hamner's Schuyler County, Virginia, "Spencer's Mountain." Mr. Hamner, Jr is still around at the young age of ninety.

If anyone is interested in the actual people behind the characters on the Waltons, I highly recommend this page:

The Hamner Family

Quote:
Earl Hamner once said,"There were eight of us. Tall, lean, fine-boned, red-headed youngsters growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia during the Depression. My father called us 'his thoroughbreds,' and put us on a pedestal. CBS called us 'The Waltons,' and put us on television."

R.I.P., Mr Waite.

The Waltons was a great old show, won't see its like again I guess. Folks ain't interested in tales of morality much these days.
