Two pieces of information: very good and bad.
The good news is that https://gimplearn.net/ is back online.

The bad one:

This is probably out of date but for the "Suggestion on how to improve gimplearn.net" thread, I'll suggest:
I would add a new tab to MAIN FORUMS - Other Graphics Applications and move all topics related to java&html.

Tim,
maybe your hosting company keeps backups on a daily basis?
It might be worth asking them ( maybe restoring costs a few dollars .... but worth a thought).

programming hurts my head, even going in cleaning up my site is a lot of effort for me right now.
I have to try to save money to pay back.

JS/PHP/HTML/etc... are not the problem, I can't imagine stackoverflow.com removing all scripts and all the snippets, same for github where people are forking everything, like applications/pseudo free games for smartphone are copy of copy of copy of copy :hehe

I think you just need to cool down with your paranoia, ;)

Don't know how to cool down that's the problem. I want to go back to a time when I didn't host any site and be member.

Maybe ask someone to take over - buy it as is and then you can settle. Give them the worry.

Yes, that would be a good idea - and all the work done would not be thrown away.

I feel sorry for you, Tim and I do realize it's a very hard task. Thanks for the years of hard work.
Maybe you best take sallyanne's advice ...

I would love someone to take over but then I don't want them to come to similar feeling as me.

Hi Tim.
From the definition of "Paranoia":
Due to the suspicious and troublesome personality traits of a paranoid person, a paranoid person is unlikely to thrive in interpersonal relationships. Most often, paranoids have one status.
You are a very active, creative and great programmer, so don't tell yourself more problems because they are completely different things.

Is this the end of GimpLearn restore - as images are not displayed and attachments cannot be downloaded.

The entire site gives me a blank page. I hope that's just temporary?? I saw you had made a plugin for the Teneriffe lace loom design, but I can't access it. :cry

Sometimes you have to try a few times before it loads.

Enxio: Tim said earlier that all uploads since April 2022 had been lost so unless Tim re-uploads the lace loom design it will not be available.

I have uploaded a new custom font and restored a wordy plug-in and associated guide images (pain but do-able) so things have improved.

Fingers crossed

I don't have back up of it.
Maybe I don't know the definition of paranoia but I flip between being afraid and not when I go online.

Your host should have a back-up, maybe they do it once a week, keeping only one back-up if the hosting is very cheap, you could ask them to restore it ASAP before the next replaces it... Or maybe you can do it from your "user" interface from the host.

Typically they don't... and I don't even see this as a pay option. Two reasons for this: 1) many such sites are throw-away servers not worth backing up and 2) backing up a running machine may save it in a transient state that makes it unusable.

On G-F.n we pay a small additional fee for a weekly snapshot, and we do our own daily backup (DB contents+ uploads).

They may have a backup of the whole the disk on which the virtual machine resides in case something goes bad on their side, but this is a service for themselves and not a service for their users (so using the backup to restore GimpLearn would also restore other VMs on the same storage unit).

I went into to check there's some Pro Site backup tool but I have to buy extra but it's pointless at this point because the files are not there so the backup would just be back up from now.

Oh, Ok it was an option.

One thing out of context, I got a loop with media8.gimplearn.net... when I go to gimplearn, a non stop trying to load something like a script trying every second (more) to ask something at media8, I do need to stop it manually, as for example when I change tab, stay 10 minutes on the others tabs, then going back, still asking multiple time per second..
Image

10 second video with the console opened https://i.imgur.com/qyODcFs.mp4 it never stops...
Just to let you know ;)
