No you understood - that's the impression I was under. I am still a bit skeptical about this principal. They claim it to be a security concern, but is there actually a security concern there? I guess we don't have a choice but to sit back and...trust microsoft.

Well, it's not about trusting them either. Microsoft doesn't have complete and utter control over all of the world's hardware factories. They can provide incentives and perks to OEMs that tailor to their OS, or pester the ones that don't, but they can't force anyone to do anything. In the end, it's Dell's choice (for example) whether "secure booting" can be toggled on their computers, not Microsoft's.


That's why I'm not freaking out right now. This thing could turn out to be harmless. If it doesn't, then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
