I tried to get on GimpTalk, but wrecked my registration, got the user "Ofnuts" locked out, and could never get in touch with an admin to solve that, even using insider connections: )

try Stunfo Ofnuts (lol; sorry; couldn't help myself; feeling a little deviant this evening). ;)

Not sure if he's going to make his site a pay to use site; hope not. That would be the deathnail to GIMPTalk. I wouldn't use it anymore anyway; broke I am. Still, our government (and I'm sure others are either thinking or have already implemented) is trying to figure out how to tax usage, but so far the powers that be has stopped them. And the battle continues. :)

Your account looks ok to me, what is the issue?

@mahvin
I don't know where this talk of premium content comes from, it's not something GIMPtalk's regular staff knows or has seen anything about at least.

Well, when navigating the tutorials, at times when you actually could, it would land on a "premium account" page. It's happened to me on several occasions, even Saulgoode has come across it. So, naturally, it begs the question: "Is it intended or accidental?" No one is saying, which also lends to the fact it's suspected. I've sent emails for others regarding accounts being inaccessible, and no response, too.

Naturally, we could argue those points on importance and priorities, but the fact remains, no one on GimpTalk has made any effort to address these points, til you commented, just now. Which means, you either have inside connections and get heard, and everyone else is "ignored".

If you need to contact some GT admin you don't need to search so far :hehe just PM to me or Griatch we are the "Managers" (so with less power then usually on other side have mods , but still we may help for registration/login problem or to move topic or ..)

PS
Mahvin i just checked, GT as always is all free, no services reserved for Premium User ,i would have resigned if something alike was true, as , i believe all the other mods

Mahvin could have been victim to an infected GIMPTalk when this happened to him. It was pretty bad a few months ago. Let's hope GIMPChat doesn't ever go through something like this. :)

Thanks PC.

Just to note, I am not suggesting or saying that GT was going to a premium service, but they need to look through their forum landing pages, which on certain click-throughs, will result in a premium user landing page (the next time it happens I'll screenshot it).

I cannot speak for anyone else in staff, but I at least cannot comment on something I've never seen. I use scriptblockers in my webbrowser and I never see these kind of attacks. I think you were affected by a hacked database and defacing - alas we in regular staff don't know details for sure since we don't get more info than you guys about many technical server issues (no, this is not an ideal situation).
I do know Ali Imran has always been very supportive of open-source software though, and there has never been any indication of making GT a pay service (ads has always been the extent of it). Indeed, as PC said, staff would resign if this was the case.

You know it's funny but i have only had the site be down one time since i joined. :)
I must be on the lucky side of the stick :lol
Mahvin i wonder if perhaps you got a popup for something other than Gimp Talks website?
Some owners will use click bank to advertise certain products and get a few dollars to maintain their sites.

On a side note my Realistic gear tutorial has already had 6 thousand plus views - knarly!
http://www.gimptalk.com/index.php?/topi ... r-in-gimp/

The tutorial was meant for the more advanced user (knowledge of grids and levels tools)
I thought i explained it pretty thoroughly though. - wow that's three th words in one sentence - amazing!

I suppose i must register again to help those who have gotten a little confused by my directions.
The new layout looks awesome too me by the way Griatch and PC.

I know I had a lot of fun with that tutorial but I used the one here. GIMPTALK's issue with dead image links is a problem for novice users.

I have an account there bur rarely go to it. Gimpchat and MTG pretty much my gimp cravings. Nevertheless I'm glad things are looking better for Gimptalk, maybe it will help resolve some of their issues.

Now I can't get to GIMPTalk. A good day then followed by problems again. Let's just hope this is just another tweak to the system. OpenDNS reports these nameservers as the issue. :)

edit:

Just tried it again (8:30pm my time) and it's up again. Weird stuff. Ali is implementing some strong anti-spambot stuff which, though a little inconvenient, is long overdue. :)

"Firefox can't find the server at www.gimptalk.com.

www.gimp.org is down too, but at least my DNS knows an address for it.
