I was working on something unrelated to Gimp or Gimp Chat and all of a sudden the top of my screen turned to black and I can't get it back the way it was with the blue and white. BTW, I have the MATE desktop. Anyone know how to fix this? thanks

I'd try to help but I must be missing something. Where is the black you spoke of?

Hey Molly, Have you tried to go back to your default browser's appearance?

Instructions
1. Open Firefox.

2. Click the "Tools" button at the top of the window.

3. Click "Add-ons" from the drop-down menu. The Add-ons Manager opens in a tab.

4. Click the "Appearance" button in the tab's right column. Your downloaded themes appear.

5. Click "Default" and click "Enable." The theme changes.

Ok. I guess I'm too much of a guy and need things spelled out.

My guess is some key shortcut did that. I don't use Firefox, but maybe there is a key for window decoration like F11 for fullscreen. Something like that.

If what you were working on really could not have any effect on your browser, it just makes sense that you hit a wrong key. Anyway, that's my best guess. If I could see how it used to look I might be of more help.

Good Luck Molly!

Thanks akovia. If I clicked something which I probably did, that is probably what changed it. I can't work with the black top,
Wallace I did what you said, I think. Here is a screen shot and I didn't download any add ons that I can see.

Where do I go back to the default appearance, I can't find anything. A lot of things are different in Fedora, I think.

Is it only your browser? If so it looks like it's Firefox.
Tools | Add-ons | Appearance
You should see Default, select Enable (you may have to restart the browser).
Post back if there are any another themes in the list.

That's odd...
Can you checked for a firefox update?
You could also do a complete reset of firefox, but I recommend this as a last resort.

Maybe you can add a new profile instead just to test. Wont it load a default profile for any new ones created?

My firefox and every else updates automatically through the Fedora and I know that it was updated a week ago. I don't know what else to try but that black bar has to go. It is too dark and I can't grab the screen to move it cuz the black goes right up into the top of the screen.

akovia, I don't know how to do that. I did it years ago when I was still using windows but don't know how anymore.

Well the more I look at it it seems like a window manager thing. Like Firefox is picking up your system theme to decorate the windows.
Did this happen *while* you were working in your browser, or were you working on something else and when you went back to your browser it was like that?

I was working on something, I don't know if it was an email or what, cuz I didn't notice it right away until I went to grab the top to drag it out of the way and the whole thing was black and still is. I just turned on my pc, waited a while and turned it but but didn't fix it.

thanks sallyanne, me too

You can try downloading a new firefox theme, enabling that theme. Then restart firefox and go to your add-ons and enabling the default theme/appearance, and see what happens.
This may or may not work.
