Hi all!

Some of you may know me from my tutorials over at my blog (http://blog.patdavid.net).

Others may know me from my shameless self-promotion. I'm posting today to talk about the latter.

To be fair, it's not so much self promotion as it is an invitation to check some new things out I've been making.

First, if you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, there is PIXLS.US.

There is also a blog at http://pixls.us/blog/ if you want to follow along as I build the site and chatter about things.
(Also, for anyone still using an RSS feed reader, the feed is here: http://pixls.us/blog/feed.xml)

I'm building the site as a premier showcase/tutorial for high quality FL/OSS photography (basically, do what the pay-to-play websites like http://phlearn.com/ do with Photoshop/etc., but for free and hopefully better). There's only a few tutorials up at the moment, but there will be more coming soon hopefully.

Second, we just finished getting the forums up and running for the site as well at http://discuss.pixls.us

It's actually a neat implementation, as posts are made to pixls.us, a topic is created for the post on the forum. Then the replies to that topic will show up as a comment thread for that post on the website. For instance, scroll to the bottom of this blog post: http://pixls.us/blog/2015/04/a-forum/ and you'll see comments that are actually replies in the topic of the forum.

Anyway, I wanted to invite any gimpchatters leaning towards the photography side of things to come on by and join the discussions! The more the merrier! :D

Nice site, I'm not sure I 'get' how the forum threads are set up, when I click on the replies, my screen jumps and I lose my place. The tree set up reminds me of the old 'usenet' style in a way.

Not sure exactly what you mean when you say that you click on a reply and the screen jumps (hope it's not a bug!). It's a little different, but having spent some time with it these past few weeks I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the neat features and functionality.

Ah yes, thanks! I still haven't fleshed out what I want on that page, and left the link there. I'll put up a placeholder page in the meanwhile. :)

NVR mind, that was the blog comments I was looking at. When a comment has a reply under it, and I click on the 1 reply button to see it, my screen jumps down to the reply so I have to scroll up to see the original comment, just to double check what is being commented on.

It may actually behave better at the forum itself when reading through a thread and responses.

if this is the case, I would suggest PatDavid to place instead a nice photo (he has plenty...) with a text on it saying something like "sorry, this section has not yet been implemented..."

Hey Pat, been watching your work for a while, nice photography and tutorials. My focus is effects and compositing so if you need anything in that department don't hesitate to let me know.

Thank you very much! :)
I am going to be open for folks to write even more tutorials soon, so if there's something you have in mind that might be a good fit for photographers, feel free to hit me with it! :D

The 404 page _should_ look a little better now (for a photography-related site...). :)

Now I'm off to fix that "Software" link to not 404, and at least show a placeholder page. Thanks for the head up, all!
