Not sure if I have posted about this yet....If I have I'm sorry but can't find it and I have new information to go with.

Can someone tell me if there is a free download for a movie/slideshow maker that can be saved to a USB.

It has to be able to be shown on a TV after. I did one in Irfanview and my TV wouldn't read the slideshow?

We figured it could be my TV but just incase. The Irfanview slideshows do show on different computers - I know I can also burn it to a DVD from there but have been told it has to be on a USB.

Is it an actual video file, or is it just a collection of photos/image files?

Collection of photos that I have scanned and other digital photos. I am supposed to put something together for my grandson's 18th.

@sallyanne,

I think you use a Windows machine? Have a look at https://support.office.com/en-us/articl ... 30815c3e83
It may be something of the sort that you are looking for. Also lots of other write-ups on the internet about using Powerpoint to create video of slideshow.

Have you tried to place all the photos on the USB Flash Drive,
then just stick it into the TV?
If it works,
it won't be anything fancy,
but it should be able to display the photos somehow.

On my TV,
I have a USB input that I can select.
it looks like this.

When I select the USB input and plugin a USB Flash Drive.
I get a dialog that looks like this.

I can select if I want to view Photos, Music, Movie and even Text.

I can use a USB with my TV. It shows movies etc. Mine has the same options from source and with a USB of movie, video, pictures etc but I haven't been able to show any pictures on it yet from a USB. Maybe the USB has to be formatted in a particular way? Thanks for your replies Wallace.
Yes David I use a Windows 10.
I will have a look at that link now.

I don't think you would need to format the flash drive.
It could be possible that the TV only recognizes JPG's, but that's just a guess.

You could download Windows Essentials and install Movie Maker.
You would then need to know how to use Movie Maker to create the slideshow.
Here's a link to download it if you want to check it out...

Thanks Wallace. Was just looking at another free movie maker for Windows 10 but it doesn't have very good reviews.

I'm not sure if you're able to use the download link I provided,
because of you being in Australia?

The grandad of video slideshow makers is DVDslideshow-gui
http://download.videohelp.com/tin2tin/

Can be very complicated so just keep it in mind.

This one photofilmstrip (if the page comes up in German, the language switch is top-right)
http://www.photofilmstrip.org/1-1-Home.html
I have used this in the past (linux) but there is a Windows version, including a portable one.

It features the Ken Burns effect but you can just keep start and finish the same size and do away with any zooming.

The main thing to play from a usb is the video format. Stick with .avi (xvid) which is equivalent to DIVX

Your probably right. It took me to the Windows 10 page but I didn't see any download link for Windows essentials

Things are a bit quiet, where I am ;)

So, a little demo on using PhotoFilmStrip.

It is a bit tedious to use but, for occasional use, good enough for your epic.

https://youtu.be/zPFHhmLGIH8

The output format I used HD = a frame size 1280x720 which should play on a modern TV

sallyanne, What format did you use from IrfanView? Did you include an image list .txt and autorun.inf on your USB? I haven't used IrfanView for many years but I think that's how it works. I think there is a button to export an image list txt. You may have to make your own autorun.inf. I have no idea if it will work with a USB, but worth a shot.

BTW, Not every TV with USB is capable of playing a slideshow without help from a connected camera, computer, mobile device, etc. If the TV does have slideshow capability, all you need is a USB with images. If not the slideshow can be run from a laptop connected via USB or export the slideshow in a common video format like avi, mp4 with appropriate encoding.

I found this IrfanView CD slideshow help info that might work with USB.
2. Method:    Manual or special slideshow CD:

2.1.    Copy IrfanView files into the root CD folder. (You can also copy an INI file “i_view32.ini” with your settings.)

2.2.    Copy your images into the CD folder called e.g. “images“.

2.3.    Create a TXT file (in slideshow dialog or using Notepad) with the names of the images. If your image files have names like “image1.jpg“, “image2.jpg“, etc. the TXT should look like this:

.\images\image1.jpg
.\images\image2.jpg
etc.

In each line is a file name with relative paths (relative to IrfanView, i_view32.exe).

Save the TXT file e.g. as “slideshow.txt” in the CD root folder.

2.4.    Create the “autorun.inf” file (Notepad). Write in the file 2 lines:

[AutoRun]

open = i_view32.exe /slideshow=slideshow.txt

Save “autorun.inf“.

Hi Sallyanne,

If you have MS Powerpoint you should be able to do a presentation by inserting the pictures and then save as a windows media video (.wmv) file. Otherwise Movie Maker can be downloaded from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/movie-maker

Cheers,

Bob

I just made an exe and I used the last version not the 1.4.2
No I didn't include image list.txt and autorun.inf on my USB

Have sent an email to Irfanview regarding it. I may try it on another TV today and see if it is just mine.

@ wirra. I don't have microsoft powerpoint and I don't think the new movie maker for Windows 10 is anything to write home about.
(I haven't tried it yet but have read terrible reviews)

Will have another look at this tonight

Thanks for all your help every one :) :)

sallyanne,

I've just been looking on the internet. There is a free programme called Bolide Slideshow Creator which is available from http://slideshow-creator.com/
The latest version would appear to be compatible with Windows 10. It appears to be able to output to various video formats (WMA is probably the one you would require).

I don't know how good it is - I am unable to test it as my computer is running Linux operating system.

david.

I got a reply from Irfanview already

Quote:
Thank you :-)

EXE on TV: no ... because an EXE is a program from Windows ... and your TV or player is usually not a Windows device.

Newer TV, DVD etc. players can play slideshow from images only, so you just take the JPGs and see the device playback/slideshow options.
