had nothing but trouble since it 'automatically' updated the other night. Mozilla updated as well and I lost all of my bookmarks. Now Windows won't even give me a restore point. :gaah

The problem is Mozilla update, if the bookmarks are not "saved/restored".
Since Windows 10 was out I installed it and updated regularly without having any problem.

@dinassett the bookmarks didn't save with the new ' Quantum' version of Mozilla.

Windows updated automatically like it usually does and I have had nothing but trouble especially with gimp since. I don't know that the browser problem and the 'windows' update affect each other but it is annoying to have so many problems all at once. I don't need them. (Anyhow, just need to let off steam somewhere)

EDIT:- found them. Just had to look. They are in the top menu only. Used to be an icon next to the star and you could access them from there. There is an different icon but it only shows recent bookmarks.

Yes, Quantum breaks a few habits. It also invalidates most of your FF plug-ins :)

The recent FF update left us unable to watch online videos because the screen went green and purple. The solution for us was to uncheck "Use Hardware Aceleration" in the settings. I noticed I don't have an absurdly long bookmarks list anymore either. I had organized all my bookmarks into categories and now I'll have to start again! :gaah

Just saw this video on my Roku's C/NET channel a few minutes ago. I say give it a change. I'm still an SR Iron user but use Firefox for controlling my Roku (the XP version; Quantum will never be available in that platform). Found the youtube version of the video. :)

Windows 10 Fall 1709 update

During the update process a "windows.old" folder is created which it uses to restore to the previous version (1703) if you so wish.

You will need to hide the 1709 update or at some point will just install it again.

A good tool to use is the "Windows Update Mini Tool" which will check for updates and allow you hide them. You can unhide and install later when you had a chance to research any of the problems you incurred.

The default setting in Firefox is to update automatically. I read that it's bit tricky to go back if it happens.
On Windows I did not bother, replaced No-Script with uBlock origin until the version for Quantum is finished.
Ad-Block + works in Quantum.
On Linux there's of course no problem and I will keep using older FF.

Sallyanne, you should always keep a backup of bookmarks, show all bookmarks and export to html.
They did not vanish anywhere but I don't really like how they work now.

@ Erisian. I think the reason I thought I had lost them all was because I had many in folders. The folders are still there but they have changed colour. I haven't checked yet to see if everything is there though.

Thankyou TimeLord I will have a look at doing that. There is one thing though, if I uninstalled something a day ago will I still be able to restore it?

@Nidhogg I am really bad when it comes to doing backups. I'll try to remember this.

Thanks everyone else for your comments.

Afraid not sallyanne, you would need to reinstall.
