I believe there is one or two more here besides myself that also have DAP. Oscar still has a lot of work to do though. Looks like all is lost of the previous board unfortunately (maybe Oscar can import that in too). I actually had to re-establish my account as well. Just wanted to share the info. :)

I'm not familiar with the MMB Forums and DAP.

I thought there were a few here that used DAP (could be mistaken). Also, some at GIMPTalk might have as well. DAP is a pretty cool (powerful for what it can do) autopainter. Perfect tool for a lazy guy like me. :)

Yes; Oscar is prolific for sure. Too cheap to buy any of his other cool gems, but I've been using DAP even before Oscar was involved with it. See Arcimbolder thread below. Once I knew DAP was based on Arcimbolder, I didn't hesitate to buy it (one of the first that did, and at a pretty cool introductory discount at that time) PC. It has it's limits, but, for what it can do, it has no equal that I've seen. :)

Arcimbolder is slow but free. Good enough to experiment with (limited but good). Not sure if the link below still works consistently (just worked again for me, but a few weeks ago didn't), but if it does, it contains a pretty cool Emo simulation from Raist (and it works in DAP too) for Arcimbolder. :)

Like the result but not the canvas PC. Never was a fan of the DAP default canvases. Oscar now allows you to use your own b/w canvas, but still refuse giving DAP a transparent canvas option (don't ask why; long argument at the original DAP forum that no longer exists). Still, DAP can do some unique things, but, other then the rare occasion for impact, I will refrain from posting my concoctions here (because I try to be GIMP specific; posted this thread since I thought we had a few people here that also happened to be DAPpers; lol). Still, Christmas is coming and Oscar might have his discount specials again. DAP is well worth it (one of the few programs/plugins that I actually have paid money for). GIMP still free though, so I'll try to keep to that motif more then not. :)

Believe it or not, most of the time I just uncheck canvas. lol

I like using DAP to fake Jigsaw Image Mosaics (best I can come up with; can't find code for doing these). Creating AOPs really not that hard. Still, it would be cool to actually make a Jigsaw Image Mosaic. Dr. di Blasi created a cool interface to create his concoction (Puzzle Image Mosaic), but I like the look of JIMs better. :)

I believe Oscar totally miss a VERY relevant point for emulation of tempera, oil and acrilic painting:
the canvas is visible when using very diluite watercolors (acquarel) but using thick strokes of oil (as Van Gogh, Monet and so on) the thickness of the color strokes completely hide the canvas

You may see the canvas texture only close to to the edges (or if the painting was so damaged to peel away)

It is not a minor point brush strokes should have thickness and transparency related to that thickness or the emulation is too poor for Oil , Tempera and Acrilic...may work only for acquarel that anyway should show behind not a canvas but a thin paper texture

I installed the newest version and bought it - it's very nice software.
If you do decide to buy it though beware of the little button in your reg key email - it says click here for 15 dollars off this order!
I clicked it filled out a small survey got my money back on my card - no problem there - BUT then another survey pops up asking you about 6 more questions to get a 25 USD gas card by mail...awesome so i filled it out.
Suddenly another window pops up telling you (and you better read this..lol) - we have now gotten your electronic signature giving us permission to take 1.95 cents off your card today and 34.95 each month to join our club... i didn't see anything about no club --lol
Anyways there was another link there to quit their club and no charges to your card will apply - so i opted out.
I will be watching my CC statements very closely though .. lol

What a bunch of crooks. I wonder how many people they duped into that one.
I don't blame DAP their software is awesome, but they should remove that button from the register code email though.

Anyways thought i would warn you ahead of time just in case you buy it.

Sorry to hear about your experience Rod. I've acquired DAP nearly a 1 and a half ago (or is that 2 and a half; can't remember; lol). Didn't have those issues at the time and Oscar has updated his software at least 5 times since then. It's a fun program, but not a do all. I do a lot of additional tlc in GIMP to get the result that I actually want, but still, I've not seen another program (well, Fotosketcher; but not like DAP of course) that gives you the results that DAP can give, especially the object based renders (like the Fruit preset). Hope to see some of your stuff at the DAP forum maybe (might be out of scope for GIMPChat, but I won't complain; lol). :)

Can arcimbolder2.zip still be found?

The link is still on romancortes.com, but it resolves to a page that says the domain is now owned by Gandi. Archive.org access attempt also failed.

Has its functionality been incorporated into GIMP now, 12 or so years from the starting line?

Thank you.

Looking at Rod's screenshot above DAP = Dynamic Auto Painter which now seems to belong to Mediachance

https://www.mediachance.com/dap/ It costs $$$

Never use DAP but looking at the screenshots, gmic must be a good alternative.

FWIW I used MediaChance DVDLabPro in both Windows and Linux(WINE) for a long time. IMHO best DVD authoring program. A good software company, if you need to purchase ;)
