Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

I am paranoid about copyright concerns and online competition. (I switch between sometimes fearing for my life and sometimes not).

Many of the things I do I get ideas from other sites online.

Like for example, I started gimplearn, because i got the idea from gimpchat.
Custom Font I got the idea from some other graphical font way back I don't remember.

I can't even watch the video news, because everything they laugh or say something sarcastic, i think they're talking about me....Like I know it's not about me but it feels like it, it's feels very troubling.

Is this the whole web platform that has pulled the plug - or is it just the GimpLearn site?

I pulled the plug on all the sites because they're in the same folder.

A bit over-reacting I'd say. The first thing you would get is a take-down notice for some questionable item. In fact my understanding of the DMCA is that they have to send you that take-down notice and cannot go further unless you refuse to comply.

Don't you think that GimpChat, GimpForums, Gimp-Forum, GimpUsers, GimpTalk, Gimper, StackOverflow, GraphicsDesign@StackExchange, r/Gimp wouldn't be in very hot water by now if you fears were justified?

And they have much bigger fishes to fry.

And the guy of photopea.com started because of... What's the name of that software again?

Anyway, you can plug back all your websites, IMO, you're not even close to something DMCA "take down", even all your other scripts HTML/JS/PHP those are yours, even if they "mimic" something else... like Linux > Unix, that's not the same code... Just my 2 cents

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't take it down permanently!!! :cry I know I visit very sporadically, but I can't tell you how much GIMPLearn has meant to me. You have been such a huge help to me with my scrapbooking on GIMP and now with my lace-making. I don't know what I would do without your wonderful plugins and inspiration, as well as those from other users. :tyspin

Hmmm!
Some sort of consensus seems to have emerged here Tim. And very supportive of all your hard work too.

If it is the custom font aspect that worries you most - then pull those threads - but at least put the rest back. There is too much good work there to simply be thrown away.

Custom fonters can find other outlets - I'd be devestated - since so many GimpLearners feel like friends now.

Whatever you decide - take care and look after yourself.

I don't know anything about managing a forum.
Although it would be a shame that all the work there would be lost.

okay ofnuts's explaination helped with my paranoia as I previously knew nothing about DMCA, I thought if copyright stuff then they can take me to court and instantly put me in jail.
I'm trying to upload gimplearn.net now it has so many files like over 74,000 files and they might be back since April 2022. it's still uploading right now it has been running overnight.

okay as long as i get no warning from DMCA, then I will not quit gimplearn.net
And if I get DMCA warning then I will try to take down whatever content related to that. but not the whole site.

There is a lot of hard work there for sure and all the user content. Today calmed me down much more than yesterday.

Yeah it looks like I don't have what it takes to run a forum, all files since April 2022 are gone.
messages are still there.
tonnes of work lost.

That's a pity. Anyway, thanks for the effort.

Having to redo it all is painful. so so painful for me right now... my head is spinning in circular logics most of the time maybe because I wrote too many for loops.

I know how precious time is, Tran; trust me. Still, you did a great job with your site. I know I didn't participate much there, but have visited the site (lurked) often enough. Many folk here do want to see your site succeed so hopefully you'll find a way. Definitely appreciate your post here at GIMPChat as well. :)
