Has this been done yet? Is it possible? Can we attempt it?

I've always been undecided about picasa. I've installed and removed it at least 4 times. Not exactly on topic, I guess.

Since I've never used Picassa, I have the same question as PC. What effect is cool and unique that can't or hasn't been duplicated in GIMP? Just curious. :)

i installed picasa 3 times but i used only once.
that only 1 time I did try the filters, i am always curious about filters, but i didn't noticed nothing worth attention.

Picasa users may daydream about have equivalent of gimp filters, but i doubt the contrary

I was just curious if it was possible. I agree on all of those points, its not for me but instead for a friend who wants to use gimp but is dependent on picasa. If I can find some mirrored filters/better filters as I want to build him a custom set up in gimp.

more than the filters he will miss the functions ( automatically parse the HD to search all images, arrange in folder, convert from RAW ... ) for sure gimp miss many of them also because is not a image viewer/organizer as Picasa

For similar uses Xnview or irfanview would be more indicate than gimp

I haven't seen anything Picasa can do that GIMP can't do better

Well picasa and gimp do different things so I don't see the conflict. Picasa does have some next functions and filters, I just have other things that do the same thing, hence my indecision on it. Also I just feel that people are allowing google to have more and more control over their lives with all of their online services. I know picasa isn't a online application but it seems to lean that way with every version.
