Hello.
I usually do daily searches on YouTube with the word "GIMP" and sorted by "Upload date" to find a new tutorial or user works.
I can see starting from page 2 there are many entries related to Photoshop:

I do not know how tags work on YouTube. Do you know if the tag "gimp" was intentionally added for those who have uploaded these Photoshop videos? or is that YouTube automatically adds tags in related topics?

I can't imagine the word Gimp would bring up Photoshop videos - it has never done so before to the best of my knowledge so I would imagine that the person who posted the video added Gimp to their tags.

To insure maximum traffic, the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) process includes a segment for keywords. If the word Gimp is included in their listing of keywords for their video or site, they are assured anyone doing a search will have it included in the results. This happens a lot especially when there are only two or three major competitors.

Gimp could accomplish the reverse simply by including PS and Photoshop in their keyword listing. Then Gimp would be popping up all over the place.

Not noticed that on youtube but then I don't search there, but I have noticed a similar thing happens on a google search.

I suspect uploaders to double tag their videos with PS AND Gimp to attract more visitors. Besides, as pointed before, I suspect that there are "silent" keyword associations made when you search something, or maybe that's a webmaster trick to hit a broader audience..

It has always been a good SEO tactic. :)

Well, good _for_ SEO tactic, but is it that good for human readers ? Harder, broader, better ? :P
