This is the site that I'm learning HTML with, from what I know it's totally free (I'm not paying anything!).

Link

HTML is easy, if you know the tags...I'm hardly pro with the tags but this site is where I go fro reference!

I hope this is useful to somebody! :)

great link, thanks Moko. I am somewhat familiar with html tags, and css, but I still find it a mystery in how to set it all up...I really need a personal tutor looking over my shoulder. It's an unfortunate truth that I have a terrible memory, always have.

In knowledgeable circles, it is said that w3schools teaches you to write some code that will make experts cough. There is working code and then there is good, proved, and maintainable code.

I never really noticed much information regarding application design on that site. It's mostly a syntax reference site.

While there are certainly a few errors and outdated references on the site, that's to be expected. It appears the site is trying to correct any errors and attempting to keep the info current. It seems the people who put up the w3fools site are competitors and pointed to their own website as an alternative. Could there be bias involved? I also found many of their criticisms nit-picky. I doubt everything on their site is 100% accurate, 100% up to date and perfectly clear, either.

I noticed that the about article pointed to several "about" articles they suggest as alternatives. Again, more criticisms from a competing website, which seems a bit bias, if you ask me. About is notorious for giving out incomplete or incorrect information.

Overall, I find W3shools to be an excellent reference site.

You also need to remember is that W3Schools ins't a professional design site either. It is simply a tool to step into the HTML world. It teaches you the basics and you go from there. There is a very good phrase that exists for this type of situation. "Feed a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime."

Of course... I'm just warning that this site isn't the Holy Book.

I don't use any tools...I have only made a website on Wix. I did take a small internet class using Dreamweaver a few years ago...but what I did learn didn't really stick.

w3schools is an excellent reference for web design and the best way to learn is with your NotePad++ text editor. I trust your using the language dialog?

The landscape has finally changed, in recent years CSS is now mature, Ruby on Rails and jQuery are awesome. I'm not going to bore you with the rest of the web application, but if you want to learn more about HTML, CSS and take it to the next level here is an excellent launching pad.
